Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 12 - 2, fighting out of New York, Michael Tucker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mikhael Volkoff! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Steve Montenegro and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tucker misses with a combination
and Volkoff counters with a takedown into side control. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Volkoff has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. A solid body kick from Volkoff. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Tucker looks to land a combination but Volkoff avoids it well. Volkoff slips a jab and a cross from Tucker.
A punch combination from Tucker misses. Tucker throws a series of punches but Volkoff moves out of range. Volkoff shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Tucker manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Volkoff slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. It looks like Volkoff might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Volkoff drops back, looking for a kneebar! Tucker looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Tucker looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Tucker! Volkoff gets back to half guard. Volkoff moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Volkoff controlling Tucker's posture.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Volkoff is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Tucker rolls with it to try and escape but Volkoff cranks on the arm and Tucker is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
