The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lewis throws a body punch but Welsh moves out of range.
Lewis throws a combination that misses
letting Welsh counter with a right hand.

Lewis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Welsh was well out of range. Poor timing from Lewis.
Welsh fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lewis manages to avoid it.
Lewis throws a right and a left that Welsh avoids nicely.
Welsh will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Lewis slips a jab from Welsh.
Lewis lands a nice looking body shot.

Nice combo by Lewis! Oh, that's hurt him - Welsh falls to the canvas and Lewis follows him into side control.

It looks like Johnny Welsh has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Lewis is trying to get an arm triangle but Welsh is defending well.
Lewis trying to control the action but Welsh is working from the bottom.
Lewis throws a strike aimed at the side of Welsh's head but Welsh avoids it well.

Welsh throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

Lewis tries to move to mount but Welsh blocks the move with his legs.

Lewis tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lewis has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Welsh is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Welsh avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Lewis.
Lewis is trying to control the action in half guard but Welsh is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Welsh wants to control but Lewis is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Lewis is pressing down on Welsh's thigh, looking to free his foot. Welsh is holding on for now.
Welsh is trying to control but can't.
Lewis stops Welsh from getting back to his feet.

Lewis stands and throws Welsh's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Lewis tries to advance to mount but can't.
Welsh parries the strikes from Lewis easily there. Lewis is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Welsh to escape.
The ground and pound from Lewis seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Lewis is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Welsh has escaped the position, nice work there.
Welsh avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Lewis.

Welsh tries to improve position but can't.
Lewis trying to control the action but Welsh is working from the bottom.
Lewis throwing strikes but Welsh manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lewis tries to buck Welsh off but Welsh is having none of it.
Welsh misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Welsh fails to land with a series of punches.
