Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Thiago Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Masato Kunaida!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kunaida fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Rua misses with a takedown attempt - Kunaida sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Rua with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Kunaida to score with a decent uppercut.
Rua tries to land a front kick but Kunaida steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Rua shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kunaida sprawls well. Kunaida wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rua gets slowly back to his feet.
Kunaida lands with an uppercut that bounces Rua off the cage and back into range.
Kunaida listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rua needs to keep his hands up - Kunaida had a free shot at his head there.
Kunaida lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Kunaida ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Kunaida uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Rua has time to react.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Kunaida connects with a right hand. Rua shakes it off.
Kunaida connects with a single shot there.
Rua shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kunaida as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thiago Rua. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rua is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Rua is rocked!
Rua backs away from a small jab...but Kunaida lunges forward with a huge superman punch! Rua crumples to the ground as his mouth piece is sent flying! Kunaida with a spectacular finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Masato Kunaida!
