PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Stugatz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthieu Renaud (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Renaud has chosen Bite Marks/ Screeching Weasel as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Paulo Stugatz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matthieu Renaud!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Renaud darts in trying to clinch
and Stugatz counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Stugatz's corner calls for a 1-2. Stugatz obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Renaud fails in his attempt to clinch.
Stugatz lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Renaud moves in looking to clinch but Stugatz pushes him off.

Stugatz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Renaud can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

You can see the frustration on Stugatz's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Stugatz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stugatz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Renaud keeps working.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Paulo Stugatz wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Renaud takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Renaud pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Renaud tries to close the distance and clinch but Stugatz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

A head kick lands from Stugatz that sends Renaud to the canvas. Renaud tries to scramble back to his feet but Stugatz brings him back down into side control.


It looks like Matthieu Renaud has been cut.
Renaud is breathing heavily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Renaud takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Stugatz throws a strike aimed at the side of Renaud's head but Renaud avoids it well.

Renaud is not content to let Stugatz control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Matthieu Renaud's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Stugatz lands a nice shot to the body.
Renaud tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Stugatz counters with a head kick.
Stugatz dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stugatz lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Renaud really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stugatz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Stugatz softens up his opponent with a couple of shots there and then CRACK! One massive shot lands there and Renaud is out cold! Stugatz jumps to his feet and celebrates on the cage with the fans, who are, quite frankly, going absolutely mental!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paulo Stugatz!
Paulo Stugatz decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
