Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Wong Mongtong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cruise Newton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wong Mongtong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cruise Newton!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newton looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Newton moves out of range as Mongtong throws a body kick.
Newton looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mongtong is fending him off so far but Newton persists. Nope, Mongtong circles away and we're back to standing.
Newton fails with the takedown.
Wong Mongtong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cruise Newton.
A lazy left from Mongtong finds it's target.


It looks like Cruise Newton has been cut.
Newton closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Mongtong fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Newton has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Mongtong gets in close and instigates a clinch.

A frustrated look appears on Newton's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Mongtong throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Newton tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Newton tries to pull guard but Mongtong holds him up against the cage and eventually Newton drops back down to his feet.

Mongtong putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Newton in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Newton on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Newton tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mongtong smiles and moves away.

and Mongtong counters with a head kick.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Cruise Newton's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Newton gets a double leg takedown into Mongtong's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Mongtong keeping full guard, as Newton tries to pass.
Mongtong knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Newton on the ground.
Newton is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Cruise Newton hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Newton shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mongtong defends it nicely.
Mongtong leaves Newton with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Newton tries to close the distance and clinch but Mongtong swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Newton shoots for a double leg takedown but Mongtong sprawls well. He's pushed Newton's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Wong Mongtong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cruise Newton.

Newton shoots in for a takedown but Mongtong shows good takedown defense.
Mongtong connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Mongtong tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Newton was well out of range. Poor timing from Mongtong.
Newton chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Mongtong can pounce on him.

Cruise Newton is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mongtong looks for the body kick but Newton saw that one coming.

Newton closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mongtong circles away.
Newton swings widly with a right hand
and Mongtong counters with a slapping leg kick.
Newton shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mongtong defends it nicely.

and Mongtong counters with a thumping low kick.

Mongtong lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Mongtong throws a nice inside leg kick.
Newton takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mongtong has closed the distance and engaged Newton in a clinch.
A knee to the head by Mongtong.
Mongtong lands an elbow just above Newton 's eye.
Newton's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Mongtong is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Mongtong using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Newton has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Newton can't break the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Mongtong is pressed up against the cage. Newton has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mongtong down to the mat. Mongtong avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Mongtong misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Mongtong catches Newton with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
A chopping leg kick lands by Mongtong.
Mongtong is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Newton can do to turn this around?

Newton looks for a takedown but Mongtong sprawls well.

Wong Mongtong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters circling a little - Mongtong finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mongtong, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
