PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mamath Blah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Bennet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bennet has chosen SmashinSomethin as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Mamath Blah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Charles Bennet!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Ivan Kurochkin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blah lands a slapping body shot.
A swing and a miss from Blah.
Blah digs a good hook to Bennet's body.
Blah throws a lazy uppercut
and Bennet counters with a head kick.
Blah lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bennet circles away quickly and effectively.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Blah lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Bennet has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Bennet and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Blah swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Bennet.
Blah throws a series of punches but Bennet avoids them all with ease.
Blah thows a body shot but no joy.
Blah throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Bennet scores with a jab.
The fighters circling - Blah throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bennet blocks a low kick nicely.
Bennet scores with a jab to the jaw.
Blah misses with an uppercut.
Bennet thows a left - swing and a miss!
Blah misses the jab.
A big right from Blah misses.
Blah throws the left hand but Bennet avoids the punch easily.
Bennet swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Blah counters with a stiff right hand.
Blah throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Bennet counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Blah throws a poor cross that misses
and Bennet counters with a series of strikes. Blah will be more careful next time no doubt.

Bennet on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Blah keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Bennet walks into a stiff left hand from Blah.
Blah throws a big shot that misses.
Blah tests Bennet's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Mamath Blah is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Blah thows a left - swing and a miss!
Bennet misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Blah is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Blah throws a leg kick but Bennet sees it coming and moves out of range.

Blah looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Blah is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Bennet.
Mamath Blah seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Blah tries a low kick but Bennet avoids it.
Blah looks to score with a jab to the body but Bennet is just out of range.
Bennet looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Blah fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bennet manages to avoid it.
Bennet tries to clinch but Blah moves out of range.
Blah staying out of range there.
Bennet misses with a wild combination.
Bennet takes a body punch but keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Blah jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Blah loads up on a big right hand but Bennet slips the punch.
Bennet avoids the body shot from Blah.
Blah steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Bennet.
Blah looks to land a right hand but Bennet moved out of range.
Blah misses with a shot to the body
and Bennet counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Bennet connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Blah lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Bennet throws a hook to the side of Blah's head but Blah sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mamath Blah dominated that round.

Bennet slips a jab from Blah.
A combination from Bennet does no damage.
Charles Bennet is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Blah throws a lazy uppercut
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Blah looks to score with a jab to the body but Bennet is just out of range.
Blah misses with an uppercut. Bennet saw that one coming.
Blah takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Bennet ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Blah moves away.
Blah lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Bennet backs up against the cage.

Bennet has taken the fight to the clinch.
A short right from Bennet on the inside.
Bennet throws a head punch that misses.

Blah wants to break free but Bennet has control.
Bennet is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Blah pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Bennet tries to throw a body punch but Blah avoids it by throwing Bennet back against the cage.
Bennet lands a left hand that snaps the head of Blah backwards.
Bennet misses with a punch on the inside.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Bennet tries to stall but Blah uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Bennet misses with a short punch on the inside.
Bennet has Blah pressed against the cage, preventing Blah from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Blah is trying to push Bennet away but Bennet has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Blah wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bennet has him pressed against the cage.
Bennet lands with a left to the head.
Blah wants to get back to striking at distance but Bennet won't allow it.
Blah is trying to break the clinch but Bennet is controlling him.

Bennet lands a takedown into guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Bennet with a flurry of punches that miss.

Bennet wants to control from the top but Blah keeps moving.
Blah wants to stand but Bennet is controlling the position.
Bennet stopping the sweep attempt from Blah.
Blah avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bennet gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Bennet slips a jab from Blah.

Bennet moves into the clinch.
A head punch on the inside from Bennet fails to land.

Bennet turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Blah is trying to control Bennet's posture but Bennet avoids it.
An elbow from Bennet crashes against the mat.

Bennet wants to lay and pray for a moment but Blah keeps working.
Blah regains half guard there - taking advantage of Bennet's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Blah moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Bennet being controlled here momentarily.
Blah is trying to keep Bennet in close.
Bennet throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Blah works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Bennet has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Bennet has his feet on Blah's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Bennet uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Blah.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Blah misses with a low kick.
Blah really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Bennet moves away from the strike by Blah.
A combination from Blah does no damage.

Charles Bennet showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Blah fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Blah tries to bum rush Bennet with a series of wild strikes but Bennet uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Blah wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

and Bennet counters with a series of strikes. Blah will be more careful next time no doubt.

Bennet ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Blah throws a one two combo.

Bennet closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Bennet pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Bennet takes the fight into the clinch.
Blah lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Bennet backwards.
Blah gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Bennet.

Blah is fighting off a takedown attempt but Bennet is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Blah to the mat. Blah regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Blah utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Blah is looking to stand up but Bennet isn't so interested in that idea.
Blah wants to improve his position but instead Bennet has moved into half guard.
Blah won't allow Bennet to pass to mount.

Blah is controlling Bennet's trapped leg to prevent Bennet from advancing to side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Blah pushes Bennet off looking to stand but Bennet dives back in and keeps control.
Blah on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Blah tries to get out of the position.

Bennet distracts Blah with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Bennet stands up over Blah, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Blah wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bennet accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Blah is pulling down on Bennet's head to control his posture.
Blah wants to stand and escape but Bennet is having none of it.

Bennet lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Bennet postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Blah will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Blah is trying to control the position but Bennet postures up.
Bennet trying to control the position from guard on top but Blah is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Bennet stands and throws Blah's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Charles Bennet has got the better of the ground game so far.
Blah is working to avoid the ground and pound but Bennet connects with a decent elbow.

Charles Bennet comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bennet has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
