PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Angus Bray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Angus Bray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anderson Silva!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bray decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Ground and pound from Bray.
Silva is pressing down on Bray's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Bray trying to move into half guard but instead Silva has managed to sweep!
Bray might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Bray wants to stand up but Silva is controlling him.
Silva trying to control the position from guard on top but Bray is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bray is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Angus Bray just wasn't active enough.
Silva is looking to clinch.
Angus Bray seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Silva tries to clinch but Bray is having none of it.

Bray closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Silva seems a little lost for a moment, as Bray dominates the positioning.
Bray in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Bray slows the pace down.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Bray wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Silva, who protects the arm well.

Silva looks to clinch
and Bray counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Silva moves to clinch but Bray breaks away
and Bray connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Bray swats away the attempt to clinch by Silva.
Nice sprawl there from Silva as Bray shoots in.
Anderson Silva is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Bray tries to score a power double leg takedown but Silva sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bray somewhat.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Bray shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Silva pinned against the cage. Silva gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Angus Bray. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bray looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Horrible takedown by Bray or perhaps it was just good defense by Silva which made him look bad.

Bray closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Silva did well to prevent Bray getting side control.

Silva moves into full guard.
Angus Bray overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Silva controls Bray momentarily but Bray frees himself.

Bray not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Angus Bray.
Silva wants to clinch but Bray slips to the side

and Bray counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Silva keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Bray perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Bray shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Silva sprawls well. Silva wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bray gets slowly back to his feet.

and Bray counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Bray shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Silva as he jumps to the side.
Bray keeps the fight on the outside.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bray fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Angus Bray. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bray shoots for a double leg takedown but Silva sprawls well. He's pushed Bray's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Silva moves in looking to clinch but Bray pushes him off.

Bray misses with a leg kick

and Silva counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Silva.
Silva unloads a knee to the mid-section. Bray lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Silva lands a nice knee to the body.
Silva tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Bray avoids it.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

The fighters are battling for position here. Silva manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Anderson Silva has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Angus Bray is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bray, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
