PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vicky Vegas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grandmaster Red (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Vegas might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Prodigy 'Omen'. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Vicky Vegas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Grandmaster Red!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Wagner Zegers and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vegas uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Red.
Vegas gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Red.
Red jabs Vegas right on the nose. Vegas blinks but takes it well.
A right-left combo lands from Red.
Vegas misses with a double jab
and Red connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Vegas takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Vegas shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Vegas is looking to score with low kicks.
Red throws a poor cross that misses

and Vegas counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vegas has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Red avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Vegas has Red pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Vegas pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Red tumbling to the mat - Vegas dives into Red's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Vegas chips away with some ground and pound.
Vegas pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Red is keeping the position for now.
Red is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Red's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Vegas passes Red's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Vegas with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Vegas stands up and beckons Red to join him on the feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Red misses with a combination
and Vegas counters with a good low kick that Red was not able to check.
Vegas takes one to the chin there.
Red lands a really nice looking cross but Vegas seems unphased.
Red swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Vegas throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vegas throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Red.
A big left from Red misses.
Red dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Red scores with a one two! Vegas had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Red lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Red moves into range and connects with a jab.
Red tests Vegas's chin there with a solid looking shot.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Vegas closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Red tries to break free but Vegas pushes him back against the cage.
Vegas is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Red gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vicky Vegas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vegas tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Vegas has Red pressed against the cage.
Red tries to circle away but Vegas has him pinned against the cage.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Vegas obliges.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Red has had enough of the clinch but Vegas keeps him there for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Vicky Vegas will probably get the nod.
That's time! Vegas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Vegas walks into a stiff left hand from Red.
Red misses with a looping right.
Vegas walks into a stiff left hand from Red.
Vegas is looking to clinch.
Sloppy strikes from Red. Those never looked like landing.
Red fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Vegas manages to avoid it.
Red swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Vegas misses with a body shot.
Vegas tries to clinch there but Red circles away.
Vegas just misses with a punch to the body.
Red lands a nice looking body shot.
Grandmaster Red seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vegas connects with a leg kick. Red looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Red lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Red throws a series of strikes that have Vegas backpedaling.
Grandmaster Red is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Red cracks Vegas with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Red might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
No joy there for Red, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A right-left combo lands from Red.
Red is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Vegas.
Red avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Red moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Red swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Grandmaster Red is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Vegas blocks a jab.
Vegas misses with an uppercut. Red saw that one coming.
Vegas uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Red.
Red ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vegas moves away.
Red lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Red.
Vegas has a takedown stuffed.
Red misses with a straight right.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Red connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Vegas momentarily.
Vegas has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Vegas there as he acknowledges the shot.
Red lands a slapping body shot.
Vegas avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Vegas walks into a straight right hand from Red.
Vegas ducks under a wild hook from Red.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Vegas tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Red manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grandmaster Red showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!


Vegas avoids a punch combination nicely.
Red swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Red misses the target.
Vegas thows a body shot but no joy.
Vegas does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vegas misses with a hook.
Vegas shoots for a double leg takedown but Red sprawls well. He's pushed Vegas's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Vegas moves into range and clinches up with Red.
Vegas is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Red is defending well for now.
Red tries to circle away but Vegas has him pinned against the cage.

Red escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Red misses with a hook. Vegas ducked under it nicely.

Vegas drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Vegas throws a series of punches but Red moves out of range.
Grandmaster Red seems to be getting the better of the standup.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Red changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Red throws a left and a right that both miss
and Vegas counters with an inside leg kick.
Vegas uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Red.

Vegas shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Red wants to improve his position but Vegas is controlling well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Well, if Vegas is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Red wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vegas content to control rather than advance.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Vicky Vegas.
Red misses with the combination.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vegas fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Vegas looks to land a right hand but Red moved out of range.
Red misses with a looping left.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Red lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Vegas backs up against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Vicky Vegas.
I think Vegas has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
