PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gerard Mullins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Baby Jay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mullins kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is One Bourbon, One Scotch, and One Beer. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gerard Mullins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Baby Jay!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jay lands a jab.
Jay getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Jay keeps the fight on the outside.
Jay misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mullins.
Mullins throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jay.
Jay misses with a looping left.
Jay lands a jab to the head.
A solid leg kick lands there for Jay.
Mullins goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Jay throws out a loose jab but Mullins uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mullins closes the distance but Jay moves to the side
and Jay counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Baby Jay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jay scores with a one two! Mullins had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Jay looks to score with a jab to the body but Mullins is just out of range.
Jay cracks Mullins with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Mullins misses with a double jab
and Jay counters with a right hand to the body.

Mullins ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jay moves away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mullins looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Mullins steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jay.
Mullins tries to clinch up but Jay circles away and keeps his distance.

Mullins throws a body punch but Jay moves out of range.
Jay keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mullins shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jay as he avoids it easily.

Mullins fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jay sprawls well initially but Mullins persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Mullins is trying to control the action in half guard but Jay is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jay is looking for a sweep. Mullins is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Mullins trying to mount his opponent but Jay defends it.

Jay tries to roll over but Mullins keeps him under control.

Mullins thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Jay is looking to improve his position.
Mullins is trying to control. Jay wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mullins shoots in but Jay avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Jay keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Jay throws a right hand that Mullins ducks under and follows up with a left that Mullins also avoids with ease.
Mullins swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Jay just misses with a punch to the body.
Jay keeps the fight on the outside.
Mullins shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jay sprawls well. Jay wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mullins gets slowly back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Jay, as that shot connected.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Baby Jay dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Mullins throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Gerard Mullins is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mullins moves in looking to clinch but Jay pushes him off.

The crowd cheers as Jay lands an impressive looking overhand right. Mullins doesn't seem phased though.

Jay closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mullins circles away.

Mullins bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Mullins moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Jay tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mullins was well out of range. Poor timing from Jay.

Jay fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mullins manages to avoid it.

A punch lands to the side of Mullins 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Mullins rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jay moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jay catches Mullins with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Jay throws a hook but Mullins blocks it.
Jay misses with a straight right.
Jay scoring well with a low kick there.
Jay swings for the body but Mullins moves out of range.

Mullins shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Mullins trying to control the position from guard on top but Jay is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jay has Mullins pulled in close to control his posture.
Mullins slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Jay pulls Mullins in close to his closed guard and prevents Mullins from doing any damage or advancing position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mullins tries to clinch there but Jay circles away.
Mullins tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jay sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mullins somewhat.

Mullins fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Mullins drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Mullins takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Jay dips to his left and cracks Mullins with an uppercut!
Jay thuds his right hand into Mullins's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Mullins takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Jay lands an overhand right.
Jay scores with a shot to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mullins shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Jay counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jay lands a nice hook to Mullins's body. Mullins takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Baby Jay showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Jay dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Jay uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Mullins.
Mullins throws a lazy right hand but Jay sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Jay shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Jay with a couple of short strikes.
Jay is landing with some decent strikes but Mullins is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.


Mullins is rocked!
Jay lands a big elbow.
Oh Mullins is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jay controlling the pace for now.
Mullins is looking to get to half guard.
Jay postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Mullins badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Jay around the waist but Jay pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Jay is the winner by TKO! Jay jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:01 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Baby Jay!
