Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Yeung Sze! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 2, fighting out of Tokyo, John Giles! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Shimada and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Giles takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. No luck for Giles with that takedown attempt. Giles misses with a looping left. Giles swings for the body but Sze moves out of range.
Sze tries to clinch enabling Giles to counter with a crisp jab. Giles scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Giles misses with a jab, cross combination.
Yeung Sze seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Giles keeps the fight on the outside. Sze tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Sze closes the distance and clinches. Giles tries for a takedown but Sze manages to get underhooks.
Sze throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Giles blocks it with crossed arms. Sze tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Giles tries to score a body lock takedown but Sze shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Yeung Sze has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Giles. Sze with a knee to the head.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Sze obliges. Giles wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Giles tries to break free but Sze pushes him back against the ropes. Sze tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Giles pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Giles tries to work over Sze's front leg with a kick but Sze checks it. Giles fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Giles swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Sze. Giles avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sze lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Sze tries to close the distance and clinch but Giles swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. The fight stays on the outside here - Sze looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Giles circles away from the clinch attempt and Giles counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Sze fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Giles, pushing him back against the ropes. Giles escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Giles misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Giles shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sze as he jumps to the side. Sze closes the distance looking to clinch and Giles counters with a nice double leg into half guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Giles is looking for a kimura here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Giles takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Giles is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Giles wants to take a breather but Sze is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Giles is looking for a kimura but Sze is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Giles to get the leverage. Giles throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Giles with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Giles stands up out of the half guard. Sze doesn't manage to clinch there - Giles circles away.
Sze fails to land with a series of punches.

Sze tries a head kick but it misses.
Sze tries to close the distance and clinch but Giles swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Sze fails with an attempt to clinch.
Giles fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Sze fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sze gets in close and instigates a clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sze tries a knee to the head but Giles blocks it.
Giles changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sze fights it off and pushes away nicely.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Giles misses with a looping right. Sze closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes. Sze with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Sze looks to throw an elbow but misses. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Sze misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Giles.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Giles drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sze pulls his leg out and moves away.
Sze fails in his attempt to clinch. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Sze tries a head kick but it misses.
Sze looks to land a combination but Giles avoids it well. Giles throws a right hand that Sze ducks under and follows up with a left that Sze also avoids with ease. Giles lands a lovely overhand right. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but John Giles will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Sloppy strikes from Giles. Those never looked like landing. Giles shoots in for a takedown but Sze shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Giles throws a good cross that connects.
Sze closes the distance but Giles moves to the side and Giles cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. A right-left combo lands from Sze. Giles lands a big head kick that sends Sze to the canvas! Giles follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Giles!
