PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Rich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doug Tuna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tuna is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Sharky + George. The key to victory for Jay Rich has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Rich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Doug Tuna!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tuna doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Rich counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Tuna tries for a takedown but Rich circles away easily
and Rich cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rich catches Tuna with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Tuna bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Rich dodges the ground and pound from Tuna.
Rich can't do much from the bottom here.
Rich wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rich knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tuna on the ground.

You can see the frustration on Rich's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rich is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Tuna asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Rich parries the strikes from Tuna easily there. Tuna is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Rich to escape.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Rich is squirming around, avoiding Tuna's attempts to control the action.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
You get the feeling that Rich really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Tuna tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Tuna can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rich is looking to escape.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Tuna postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Rich looks a forlorn figure.

Doug Tuna showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Rich thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Tuna's head.
Tuna wants to control but Rich is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Rich is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Rich is stalling in the full guard.

Rich wanted to stand there but Tuna had control of the position.
Rich trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Tuna wriggles free and stands up.
Rich has his takedown stuffed

and Tuna counters with a shoot takedown. Rich fights it but they end up in guard.

Tuna pushes down on Rich's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Tuna content to control rather than advance.
Tuna is stalling here. Rich is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Tuna seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Rich has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Jay Rich has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rich throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jay Rich.
I think Tuna has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
