Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ruben Lagus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Kershaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kershaw is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Lose Yourself. Jason Kershaw told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ruben Lagus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jason Kershaw!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lagus throws a solid leg kick but Kershaw takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Lagus.

Lagus shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kershaw's guard.
Lagus in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kershaw trying to keep a closed guard but Lagus is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lagus has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kershaw is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kershaw utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Lagus avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Lagus postures up in Kershaw's guard and throws a big left but Kershaw blocks it.
Kershaw looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kershaw wants to clinch up but Lagus keeps it at a distance.

Lagus has taken the fight to the clinch.
Kershaw on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Lagus decides to pull guard.

Kershaw wants to get up but he can't break Lagus's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Lagus controls Kershaw momentarily but Kershaw frees himself.

Lagus is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Lagus lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Lagus connects with a nice short shot to Kershaw's temple.

Lagus is pressing down on Kershaw's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kershaw is holding on for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Lagus lands a nice short elbow.

Kershaw tries to hold on but Lagus postures up.
Kershaw is in all sorts of trouble here.
Lagus throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Kershaw because Lagus loaded up on that one.
Kershaw tries to reverse the position but Lagus maintains control.
Kershaw slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Kershaw wants to get back to full guard.
Kershaw keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Lagus with the ground and pound but Kershaw uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Kershaw is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kershaw trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ruben Lagus dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Kershaw drops Lagus with a left right combo! Kershaw follows him down to the ground into side control.


Lagus is rocked!

Kershaw tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kershaw has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Oh Lagus is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Lagus is looking for a sweep.
Kershaw cracks Lagus with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Kershaw immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Lagus is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Kershaw!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jason Kershaw!
