PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Michael McCulloch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Young (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCulloch comes into the arena with Drowning Pool - Bodies blaring out of the sound system. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael McCulloch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Alexander Young!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Paul Tew and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Young moves into the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
McCulloch seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.
McCulloch has Young pressed against the cage, preventing Young from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
McCulloch fails to pull guard.

McCulloch gets control of Young's arms and successfully pulls guard. McCulloch will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
McCulloch keeping moving, preventing Young from controlling successfully.
McCulloch is pulling down on Young's head to control his posture.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McCulloch has a closed guard, preventing Young from standing up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now McCulloch is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McCulloch is pushing down on Young's leg trying to pass to half guard. Young is fighting to maintain full guard but McCulloch has managed to sneak the leg through.
Young trying to hold on to McCulloch's head to control him but McCulloch postures up.
Young pushes McCulloch off looking to stand but McCulloch dives back in and keeps control.
McCulloch trying to control the action but Young is working from the bottom.
Young is trying to maintain the position but McCulloch is very close to passing his half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Young won't allow McCulloch to pass to mount.
McCulloch seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Young does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

McCulloch is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Young sees it coming and defends easily.
Young really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McCulloch. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
McCulloch takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
McCulloch thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
McCulloch wants to lay and pray for a moment but Young keeps working.

McCulloch is looking for a kimura but Young is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for McCulloch to get the leverage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Young avoiding damage under a succession of punches from McCulloch.
McCulloch is trying to control. Young wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

McCulloch seems to be looking for submissions.
Young is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute McCulloch jumps into side control!

McCulloch is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Young is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Young tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
McCulloch is riding his opponent, not letting Young buck him off.
McCulloch punishes Young with strikes from the back mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McCulloch lands punches and elbows.

McCulloch has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Young is in real trouble here. McCulloch gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Young is tapping out! McCulloch wins by rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Michael McCulloch!
