PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between big Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Cavero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Black comes into the arena with my life blaring out of the sound system. Juan Cavero is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, big Black!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Juan Cavero!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Gwen Towbar.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cavero thows a body shot but no joy.
Black has his takedown stuffed
and Cavero counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Black gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Cavero cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Cavero gets caught flat footed, as Black shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Black is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Black trying to control the position from guard on top but Cavero is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Black chips away with some ground and pound.
Black stops Cavero from standing up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Black accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Black prevents Cavero from getting back to his feet.

Black seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Black passes Cavero's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Cavero is trying to stand.
Cavero is looking to get back to is feet but Black passes into side control.
Black in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Black's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Cavero is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Black is controlling him well.
Cavero tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Black sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Black seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cavero for as long as he can get away with.

Cavero trying desperately to get to his feet.
Black tries to control but Cavero wriggling away.
Black controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Black won't let Cavero get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Black swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Cavero is now in Black's guard. A big mistake from Black there, giving up the dominant position!

Cavero wants to get up but he can't break Black's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Black will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Cavero throws a strike but Black rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Black's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Black lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Cavero keeping moving, preventing Black from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Cavero throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Black decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cavero's guard.
Cavero is looking to stand back up but Black counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Cavero.
Black is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Cavero tries to kick Black off but Black keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Black is looking to take a break and control but Cavero is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cavero wants to control but Black is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Black is trying to work for a kimura but Cavero is defending well.

Cavero looking for submissions off his back.

Black takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Black prevents Cavero from standing back up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Cavero looks like he's trying to stand up.
Black trying to control the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Cavero is trying to stand up here but Black is controlling him well.
Black slows the pace down in half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because big Black just wasn't active enough.
Black checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Black shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Cavero connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Cavero lunges at Black with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Black's hand.

Black shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Cavero is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Cavero is breathing heavily.
Cavero really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Black has hold of Cavero's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Cavero manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Black looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Black goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Cavero turns into him and now he's in Black's guard.
Black is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cavero throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Black works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Cavero would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Black pulls Cavero in close to his closed guard and prevents Cavero from doing any damage or advancing position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Cavero comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Black has his takedown stuffed
enabling Cavero to counter with a crisp jab.
Black with a poor takedown
and Cavero makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Black really felt that one!
Cavero plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Black has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cavero finds it's way round the side to connect with Black's head.
Black takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Black gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Cavero.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Black ducks right into an uppercut from Cavero.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cavero closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Cavero manages to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Black takes one to the chin there.
Black slips a jab and a cross from Cavero.
Black misses with a takedown
and Cavero counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for big Black. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cavero throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Black gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Juan Cavero is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Black with a lazy takedown attempt
and Cavero counters with a left and a right that stings Black.
Black takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Black walks into a stiff left hand from Cavero.

Cavero clinches with his opponent.

Cavero pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Black gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Cavero counters with a series of strikes. Black will be more careful next time no doubt.
big Black is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Black is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cavero rushes Black with punches - Black moves straight backwards instead of circling and gets clipped by the second strike... and the third... and the fourth! Oh, Black goes down! Cavero follows up with more strikes and the ref steps in to end the bout!
