PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sun Wukong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Goguryeo Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kim comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Cunninlynguists - Lynguistics kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sun Wukong!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Goguryeo Kim!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Bruno Hogan and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wukong throws a chopping leg kick but Kim manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Wukong connects with a leg kick. Kim looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Wukong throws a jab but it's blocked by Kim.
Kim swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Wukong counters with an inside leg kick.
Kim uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Wukong.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wukong thows a body shot but no joy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wukong closes the distance looking to clinch
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Wukong wants to clinch up but Kim keeps it at a distance.
Wukong throws a body punch but Kim moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A low kick from Wukong is predictable there
and Kim counters with a good low kick that Wukong was not able to check.
Sun Wukong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wukong thows a body shot but no joy.
Kim is looking to clinch but Wukong is avoiding it.
Wukong checks a low kick from Kim.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wukong wants to clinch up but Kim keeps it at a distance.
Wukong tries a low kick but Kim avoids it.
Wukong throws a lazy head kick

and Kim counters by moving into the clinch.
A body shot lands from Kim.
Kim is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Wukong is keeping busy.
Kim swings wildly with an uppercut but Wukong uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kim is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Wukong throws a punch but it's blocked by Kim.

Wukong tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Kim managing to block the knees to the body from Wukong.
Wukong trying to land knees to the body.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Kim's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Wukong keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
The fight stays on the outside here - Wukong looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Kim instigates a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Goguryeo Kim dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Kim counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Wukong looks to throw the jab but Kim is out of range.
Kim throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Wukong tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kim paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Nice body kick from Wukong.
A good leg kick by Kim.
Wukong thows a leg kick but Kim checks it
and Kim finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Wukong doesn't manage to clinch there - Kim circles away.
Wukong keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Kim takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Kim swats away the attempt to clinch by Wukong.
Wukong dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Kim. That did some damage!

Thud! ouch! good body kick from Wukong - that will leave a mark!
Kim throws a leg kick
and Wukong counters with an inside leg kick.
Wukong misses with a straight right.
Kim connects with a high kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wukong lands a lovely overhand right.
Wukong lands a body shot.
Kim misses the body punch
and Wukong counters with a leg kick.
Kim scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
A low kick from Wukong misses
and Kim counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Goguryeo Kim showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nice straight punches there by Wukong. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Wukong.
Kim takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Kim takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Wukong throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Kim misses with a wild body shot.

Wukong fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kim has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Kim throws a leg kick
and Wukong counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kim throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Kim takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Kim tries to clinch up but Wukong circles away and keeps his distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wukong misses with a left hand
and Kim counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Wukong instigates a clinch.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Kim. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Wukong.
Kim misses with a hook from the clinch.
Kim throws a punch but it's blocked by Wukong.
Kim goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Kim taking a breather.
Wukong lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Kim.
Wukong missing with knees to the body.
Kim creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Wukong unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Wukong has Kim pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Kim is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Wukong - that's hurt Kim badly! Oh, another knee lands and Kim is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Kim doesn't seem to be complaining.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:04 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Sun Wukong!
Sun Wukong retains his light heavyweight title!
