PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Salazar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gunnar Strom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Strom has chosen I Need a Hero as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Miguel Salazar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gunnar Strom!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Strom gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Salazar has Strom pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Strom manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Salazar has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Strom avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
A hook to the body from Strom.
Salazar is trying to drag Strom to the mat but Strom just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miguel Salazar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Strom swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Strom tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Salazar's elbow.
Strom lands with a right to the head.
Strom lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Salazar backwards.
Strom is leaning against Salazar and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Salazar drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Strom tries to throw a body punch but Salazar avoids it by throwing Strom back against the cage.

Strom throws a punch but it's blocked by Salazar.
Salazar tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Strom just stands there and leans against the cage.

Strom misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Salazar blocks an uppercut.
Salazar fails to pull guard.
Strom works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Strom swings wildly with an uppercut but Salazar uses good head movement to avoid it.
Salazar is trying to push Strom away but Strom has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Strom lands with a light punch inside.
Strom gets through Salazar's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Strom lands a nice shot to the body.
Strom tries to throw a body punch but Salazar avoids it by throwing Strom back against the cage.
Strom throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Salazars head.
Strom tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Salazar has picked Strom up - he's going for a ride! Salazar dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Salazar looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Strom is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Salazar is looking to take a break and control but Strom is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Salazar thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Salazar is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Strom is trying to stand.
Strom is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Salazar's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Salazar's back!
Strom trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Salazar doesn't escape.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Salazar is in bad spot here.
Strom avoiding Salazar 's attempts to control his hands.
Strom is riding his opponent, not letting Salazar buck him off.
Salazar tries to escape but Strom has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gunnar Strom dominated that round.

Salazar tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Strom swivels and escapes.
Strom lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

and Strom counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Salazar shoots in for a double leg but Strom sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Strom cracks Salazar with an open hand slap.
Miguel Salazar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Salazar misses with a hook
and Strom counters with a nice uppercut.
No joy there for Strom, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Salazar misses with a right hand

Salazar takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Strom shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Salazar eats them both and turns towards Strom to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Salazar fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Salazar takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.


Salazar is rocked!
Salazar rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Strom counters with a monster hook and another for good measure! Salazar falls to the ground, out cold! Stick some heavy metal music over the top of that clip and it's one for the highlight makers!
