Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Kawakami (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Filipe Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, David Kawakami!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Filipe Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kawakami fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Kawakami feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendes wants to get back to his feet but Kawakami is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Mendes tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kawakami wants to control from the top but Mendes keeps moving.

Mendes is looking for a triangle but Kawakami pushes his legs off easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kawakami closes the distance and clinches up with Mendes, looking for a takedown. Kawakami pushes Mendes against the cage but Mendes circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Kawakami shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kawakami was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Mendes tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mendes is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Kawakami looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Kawakami seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mendes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Mendes wants to control but Kawakami is keeping busy.
Mendes pushes Kawakami off looking to stand but Kawakami dives back in and keeps control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
No joy there for Mendes, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Mendes feints and as Kawakami raises his hands in defense, Mendes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Kawakami is not content to let Mendes control the position.
Mendes tries to pass to full mount but Kawakami defends it.
Mendes wants to get back to his feet.

Mendes is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kawakami is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kawakami manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Kawakami is squirming around, avoiding Mendes's attempts to control the action.

Mendes lands a big shot there that rocks Kawakami but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Kawakami is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Filipe Mendes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Mendes tries to improve his position but Kawakami has taken his back! Kawakami has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Mendes tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Kawakami pushes Mendes away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
