PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roronoa Zoro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jin Sen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sen has chosen AC/DC - TNT as his entrance music. Jin Sen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Roronoa Zoro!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jin Sen!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sen misses with a wild combination.
Zoro misses with a jab, cross combination.

Zoro feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Zoro stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sen swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Zoro drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sen manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Zoro has Sen in his guard.

Zoro working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Sen decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zoro doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Zoro takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Zoro fails with the takedown
and Sen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Zoro throws a right hand that misses

and Sen counters by clinching up.
Sen misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Zoro on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Nice body punch from Sen.
Zoro tries to pull guard but Sen holds him up against the ropes and eventually Zoro drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roronoa Zoro. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sen tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Zoro fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Zoro as Sen tries to tie him up.
Zoro prevents a body shot from Sen.
Zoro has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sen is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sen lands a nice shot to the body.
Sen working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.

Sen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Zoro has his takedown stuffed

and Sen counters with a crisp one two that drops Zoro! Sen thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Zoro to his feet! Zoro is in big trouble!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zoro misses with a hook
and Sen counters with a nice body kick.
Zoro is breathing heavily.
Zoro walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Sen lands a nice leg kick that just misses Zoro's sensitive parts.

Sen gets a clinch.
Sen working Zoro over with knees to the body.
A short body shot lands from Sen as the two fighters clinch.

Sen breaks the clinch.
Zoro on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Zoro showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Sen.
Sloppy strikes from Sen. Those never looked like landing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sen lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Sen is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
No joy there for Sen, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Sen gets a clinch.
Sen misses with a body punch.

Sen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Zoro fails with the takedown.
Zoro misses with a hook
and Sen counters with a straight right hand.

Sen lands a big head kick that sends Zoro tumbling to the mat! Sen takes a step backwards and waves Zoro back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Zoro is rocked!
Roronoa Zoro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sen misses with the combination.
Oh Zoro is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Zoro misses with a takedown
and Sen counters with a leg kick.
Zoro misses with a shot to the body
and Sen counters with a left and a right... and another left... and another!! That last one turned off the lights! Zoro has no idea who he is and is as he gazes up at the spotlights. Brutal knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:01 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Jin Sen!
Jin Sen is the new lightweight champion!
