PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joe McGaleb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pulp Fiction (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGaleb comes to the cage accompanied by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZnhuOEUFXA. Pulp Fiction struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 187.8lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Pulp Fiction!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGaleb has taken the fight to the clinch.
Nice elbow from McGaleb.
Fiction misses with a body punch.
McGaleb lands an elbow just above Fiction 's eye.


It looks like Pulp Fiction has been cut.

McGaleb breaks from the clinch.

A momentary lapse in concentration from McGaleb enables Fiction to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. McGaleb manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fiction drops back, looking for a kneebar! McGaleb looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. McGaleb looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from McGaleb!

McGaleb tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McGaleb has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

McGaleb is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Fiction is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
McGaleb knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fiction on the ground.

McGaleb looks up at the clock and then as Fiction takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, McGaleb smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

McGaleb decides to stand back up.

and McGaleb counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Fiction looks gassed!
Fiction manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Fiction can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McGaleb is looking to escape.
McGaleb wants to hold on but Fiction pushes him away.

Fiction wants to take his opponent's back but McGaleb doesn't allow it.

Fiction looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Fiction can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McGaleb is looking to escape.
McGaleb holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Fiction tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Fiction swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and McGaleb is now in Fiction's guard. A big mistake from Fiction there, giving up the dominant position!

McGaleb wants to pass the guard but Fiction is keeping the position.

McGaleb decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Fiction, up you get!

Fiction tries to sprawl but McGaleb drives through with a takedown into half guard.
McGaleb is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

McGaleb thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Fiction wants to sweep but no luck.
McGaleb landing with the ground and pound.

McGaleb pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fiction is keeping the position for now.

McGaleb is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
McGaleb has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
McGaleb stands and throws Fiction's legs to the side, diving into side control.
McGaleb is chipping away with strikes.

McGaleb wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fiction, who protects the arm well.
Fiction sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Fiction is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

McGaleb postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
McGaleb wants to control from the top but Fiction keeps moving.

Fiction bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McGaleb's guard.
McGaleb is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Fiction doesn't succeed with the takedown

and McGaleb moves into the clinch.
McGaleb unloads a knee to the mid-section. Fiction lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
McGaleb crunches a lovely knee into Fiction's ribcage.
McGaleb gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
McGaleb misses with a knee strike.

McGaleb pulls guard effortlessly.
Fiction forces his way into half guard.
Fiction moves nicely into side control.

McGaleb is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
McGaleb is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Fiction off and has taken his back!
Fiction tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

McGaleb takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
