PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cliff Sierra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raf Gon DIas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sierra's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Sweet Dreams-Manson. Gon DIas has chosen Before I Forget as his entrance music. Raf Gon DIas will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cliff Sierra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Raf Gon DIas!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Donatello Bradman and Steve Erwin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sierra scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Gon DIas gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Sierra counters with a takedown into side control.
Sierra throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Gon DIas works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Sierra throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Gon DIas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sierra. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gon DIas pushes Sierra off looking to stand but Sierra dives back in and keeps control.
Sierra takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Sierra wants to take a breather but Gon DIas is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sierra is trying to work for a kimura but Gon DIas is defending well.

Sierra thows a huge punch but Gon DIas dodges it nicely.
Sierra tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gon DIas knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Sierra is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gon DIas defends it well.
Sierra looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gon DIas with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gon DIas is staying active underneath Sierra, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sierra is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Gon DIas reverses the position - he's now on top in Sierra's guard.

Gon DIas tries to stand but Sierra is controlling from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Cliff Sierra wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Gon DIas throws a right hand that Sierra ducks under and follows up with a left that Sierra also avoids with ease.

Gon DIas wants to stand and escape but Sierra is having none of it.
Sierra postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Sierra stands up and waves to Gon DIas to follow him.
Gon DIas looks to land a combination but Sierra avoids it well.

Sierra fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gon DIas to the ground. Sierra is now in Gon DIas's guard.
Sierra throws a strike but Gon DIas rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Sierra shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sierra walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Gon DIas checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Sierra fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cliff Sierra. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gon DIas shoots in and drives through. Sierra sprawls well.
Raf Gon DIas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Sierra counters with a leg kick.

and Sierra counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gon DIas won't be happy with that.

Sierra is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gon DIas has escaped the position, nice work there.
Cliff Sierra overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sierra stands up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Sierra wants to work for an arm triangle but Gon DIas is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Sierra wants to take a breather but Gon DIas is having none of it.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Gon DIas connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Sierra's hands.

It looks like Cliff Sierra has been cut.

Gon DIas lands a left and a right that send Sierra crashing to the mat, dazed. Gon DIas thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Sierra keeps the fight on the outside.
Sierra takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Sierra blocks a head kick by Gon DIas.
Sierra shoots in but Gon DIas avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Sierra counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Sierra stops Gon DIas from standing up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cliff Sierra has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Gon DIas tries to land a front kick but Sierra steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Nice shot lands for Gon DIas.

Sierra goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Gon DIas is on top in guard.

Gon DIas is fighting to break Sierra's control of his arms but Sierra is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Cliff Sierra just wasn't active enough.
