The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Akiyama takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Akiyama throws a series of punches but Villegas avoids them all with ease.
Akiyama misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Akiyama shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Villegas eats them both and turns towards Akiyama to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

and Villegas counters with a nice double leg into side control. Akiyama won't be happy with that.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
