The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holmes throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Meridio moves into the clinch successfully.
Holmes tries to pull guard but Meridio won't allow it.
Meridio tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Holmes avoids it.

Meridio's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Holmes misses with the body kick

so Meridio counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Holmes is looking for a triangle but Meridio pushes his legs off easily.
Meridio stopping the sweep attempt from Holmes.
Meridio wants to control from the top but Holmes keeps moving.

Holmes is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Meridio would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Holmes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Meridio is one step ahead there.

Holmes is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Meridio pulls his head out easily.

Holmes avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Holmes looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Meridio wants to control from the top but Holmes keeps moving.

Meridio stands up and waves to Holmes to follow him.

Holmes throws the kick towards the body but Meridio avoids it.

and Meridio counters with a shoot takedown. Holmes fights it but they end up in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Holmes looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Meridio is defending well. Holmes quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Meridio has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Holmes celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
