PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vincent Van Gogh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roberto Umberto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Van Gogh's entrance music is Carl Orff - O Fortuna. A fine choice. Umberto comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Perry Como - Magic Moments kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The key to victory for Vincent Van Gogh has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Vincent Van Gogh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Roberto Umberto!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Eliza Hachem and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Van Gogh enables Umberto to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Van Gogh manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Van Gogh is trying to keep Umberto in close.
Van Gogh can't keep his opponent in guard - Umberto advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Umberto looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Van Gogh with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Van Gogh is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Umberto's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Umberto's back!

A decent looking body kick lands there for Van Gogh.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Van Gogh lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Umberto has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Umberto and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Van Gogh dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Umberto. That did some damage!

Van Gogh throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Van Gogh feints and then cracks Umberto's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Umberto down.

Umberto tries to pull guard but Van Gogh holds him up against the cage and eventually Umberto drops back down to his feet.

Umberto is looking to control Van Gogh's arms but Van Gogh gets an underhook and turns him. Now Umberto has his back to the cage.

Umberto has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Umberto sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Van Gogh seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Umberto does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Umberto throws a shot from downtown. Van Gogh moves away and avoids it.

and Van Gogh counters with a good, hard body kick but Umberto shrugs it off.
Good leg kick by Van Gogh there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

and Van Gogh makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Umberto really felt that one!

A big strike lands for Umberto! That's really hurt Van Gogh and he's turned his back - Umberto keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Umberto jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Roberto Umberto!
