Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Happy Gunj!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Drasek Riven!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riven tries to clinch up
and Gunj counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Gunj scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Riven misses with an uppercut

so Gunj counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Riven is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Riven is looking for a triangle here but Gunj uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
A lull in the action here.

Riven is looking to regain half guard here but Gunj keeps moving and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gunj wants to control but Riven is keeping him busy.
Riven is looking to reverse the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Riven is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Riven has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gunj is working away from the top position though.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Drasek Riven.

and Gunj counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Gunj wants to control from the top but Riven keeps moving.

Riven looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gunj is one step ahead there.

Riven controls Gunj momentarily but Gunj frees himself.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Drasek Riven hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Gunj feints a jab promting Riven to slip. Gunj then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Riven slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Happy Gunj dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Riven looks to clinch

and Gunj counters with a single leg into guard. Riven didn't expect that.

Riven looking for a guillotine here but Gunj defends easily.
Riven is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Riven is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Happy Gunj overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Gunj makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Riven is breathing heavily.
Gunj shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Riven eats them both and turns towards Gunj to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.


It looks like Drasek Riven has been cut.
A nice combination there by Gunj.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Gunj counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Riven works his way to full guard. Good work.
Gunj is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Riven can do to turn this around?

Riven has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Gunj is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Riven.

Gunj remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Riven gets back to half guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Riven misses with a right hand
and Gunj counters with a two punch combo.

Gunj throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Riven was covering up waiting for the punch and Gunj finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Riven had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gunj defends it easily.
Riven is trying to control the position but Gunj postures up.

Gunj in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Gunj got a little sloppy there for a moment and Riven has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gunj has managed to get both his arms back between Riven's legs - danger averted.

Riven working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gunj doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gunj manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Riven takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Gunj is stalling in the full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Riven wants to sweep but no luck.
Riven lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Gunj!
Riven wants to get back to his feet but Gunj is holding on tight.
Riven controlling the position easily from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Riven working for a submission but Gunj is keeping him at bay.
Gunj is wriggling around trying to escape.
Gunj is controlling an arm, preventing Riven from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Gunj tries to lock up and control but Riven gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Happy Gunj is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Riven wants to control the pace but Gunj is squirming around nicely.
Drasek Riven has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Riven unloads with some shots from mount but Gunj bucks and avoids them well.

Riven goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Gunj is on top in guard.
Riven wants to sweep here but Gunj controlling him for the moment.

Riven isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Gunj stacks Riven on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Gunj!

And that's the end of the fight!
Happy Gunj showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Gunj has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
