Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob McGrady! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Duke Riley! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Franklyn Lucas and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McGrady stuns Riley with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Riley misses with a lunging right hand
and McGrady counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Riley's guard now. McGrady working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. McGrady got a little sloppy there for a moment and Riley has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McGrady has managed to get both his arms back between Riley's legs - danger averted. Riley wants to sweep here but McGrady controlling him for the moment. McGrady advances position into side control! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Riley tries to get back to half guard but can't. McGrady trying to control the position but Riley is working away. Riley taking punishment in the form of punches.
Riley really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McGrady. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Riley tries to escape but McGrady is in control. McGrady creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Riley sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Riley is trying to escape the position but McGrady is controlling the position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Riley can do anything to dispel that myth. McGrady lands an elbow.
It looks like Duke Riley has been cut. Riley is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGrady in side control lands a decent elbow. Riley is trying to control McGrady's posture but McGrady avoids it. Riley is trying to buck McGrady off. McGrady lands a decent elbow from side control. McGrady in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
That has opened up Duke Riley's cut even more. Riley is looking for a sweep. Riley takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Riley tries to bench press McGrady off him but McGrady keeps the position. McGrady wants to lay and pray for a moment but Riley keeps working. The strikes coming from McGrady are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Riley is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Riley can't do much from the bottom here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McGrady slows the pace down. McGrady scoring with punches and elbows. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Riley avoids any damage from the ground and pound of McGrady. McGrady creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
The cut above Duke Riley's eye is starting to cause him problems now. McGrady has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Riley stops McGrady from passing to mount. Riley pushes McGrady away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, McGrady gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. McGrady throws a strike aimed at the side of Riley's head but Riley avoids it well. Riley takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
McGrady lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Riley down.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Riley is trying to escape the position but McGrady is controlling the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McGrady lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Riley controls the position for a moment. Riley tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McGrady wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. McGrady has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Riley! Riley can't escape the position.
Riley is squirming around, avoiding McGrady's attempts to control the action. McGrady working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Duke Riley's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Duke Riley's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Bob McGrady!
