PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jack Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Martinsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker comes to the ring accompanied by The Doors - Peace Frog. Martinsson is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Bleach - Fade to Black B13A. Fedor Martinsson will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jack Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Martinsson!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksandr Martynov and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker throws a lazy body kick
and Martinsson counters with a nice uppercut.
Martinsson misses with a left hand
and Walker cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Martinsson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Martinsson moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Walker scores with a decent looking hook.
Walker throws the kick towards the body but Martinsson avoids it.
Walker moves out of range of the body kick.
Walker throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Martinsson counters with a stiff right hand.
Walker moves out of range as Martinsson throws a body kick.
Good work by Walker as he checks the leg kick.

Walker feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Walker drops back, looking for a kneebar! Martinsson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Martinsson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Martinsson!

Walker might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Martinsson is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Walker will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Martinsson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Walker, who protects the arm well.
Martinsson wants to control but Walker is keeping him busy.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Walker regains half guard.

Martinsson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Walker sees it coming and defends easily.
Martinsson wants to take a breather but Walker is having none of it.
Walker gets back to full guard.
Walker manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Martinsson manages to get himself to full guard.
Martinsson is controlling Walker's posture.

Walker postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Martinsson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Walker, into his guard.

Walker is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Martinsson works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Walker makes his way to full guard, as Martinsson worked for a kimura.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Walker trying to keep a closed guard but Martinsson is proving a slippery customer.
Walker lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Martinsson!

Martinsson is wriggling around trying to escape.
Walker looking to control but Martinsson is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Walker can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Martinsson is looking to escape.

Walker jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Martinsson is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Martinsson and Walker has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Fedor Martinsson will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Some bone on bone action there as Walker checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Walker swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Martinsson lands with a straight right. Walker didn't see that one coming.

and Martinsson finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Walker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Martinsson misses with a series of wild punches.
Walker takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Walker rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Martinsson counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Walker bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Martinsson is looking for a sweep.
Martinsson holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.

Martinsson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Walker wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Martinsson gets back to half guard.
Walker prevents Martinsson from improving his position.
Martinsson trying to get back to full guard but Walker takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Walker thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Martinsson is desperately trying to improve his position but Walker has a good base and remains in mount.

Walker takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Walker lands with some strikes.
Walker is landing with some decent strikes but Martinsson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Walker wants to control the pace but Martinsson is squirming around nicely.
Martinsson wants to hold on but Walker pushes him away.

Walker prevents Martinsson from getting the reversal.

Jack Walker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Walker connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Walker lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Walker goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Martinsson is on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jack Walker will probably get the nod.

Martinsson throws a push kick but Walker slaps the foot to one side.

Nice straight punches there by Martinsson. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Martinsson.
Martinsson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Walker.

Fedor Martinsson seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Martinsson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Martinsson wants it to stay on the feet.
Walker throws a head kick but Martinsson moves out of range.
Walker scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Martinsson has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Walker shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Walker was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
