PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Myron Obusan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Winston Ashley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ashley has chosen Red Warrior as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Winston Ashley was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ashley shoots in for a takedown but Obusan shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Ashley scores with a sloppy right hand. Obusan should have avoided that one.

Ashley shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Obusan's guard.
Ashley throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Obusan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ashley throws a strike but Obusan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ashley has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Ashley isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Obusan stacks Ashley on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Obusan!

Ashley is looking for a sweep. Obusan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Ashley closes this distance looking for a takedown but Obusan circles away.
Obusan catches Ashley with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Ashley tries to score a power double leg takedown but Obusan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ashley somewhat.
Obusan takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Obusan throws a hook but Ashley blocks it.
Obusan throws a solid leg kick but Ashley takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Obusan.

and Ashley counters with a nice double leg into side control. Obusan won't be happy with that.
Obusan seems a little lost for a moment, as Ashley dominates the positioning.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Obusan takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Ashley is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Obusan has escaped the position, nice work there.

Ashley has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Obusan's face.

Obusan is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Obusan's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Winston Ashley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Ashley shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Obusan manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Ashley postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Ashley slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Ashley shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Obusan napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Ashley is pressing down on Obusan's thigh, looking to free his foot. Obusan is holding on for now.

Winston Ashley has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Obusan stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Obusan wants it to stay on the feet.
Ashley shoots in looking for a takedown. Obusan tries to sprawl out of it but Ashley keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Obusan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Obusan gets cracked there but stands up to it.
