PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Sims (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Kooch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kooch has chosen Rusko - Tru Powwa as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Sims!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Kooch!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sims throws out a loose jab but Kooch uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kooch closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sims circles away.
Kooch moves away from the strike by Sims.
Kooch moves out of range as Sims strikes.
A slow jab from Sims misses its intended target.

Sims shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sims showed some decent athleticism there.
Sims stops Kooch from getting back to his feet.

Kooch looking for submissions off his back.
Sims is thwarting Kooch's attempts to control the position.

The fighters are battling for position here. Kooch manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Kooch is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kooch might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Sims kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Kooch looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Sims not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kooch has momentary wrist control but Sims slips an elbow through the middle.

Kooch is looking to stand up but Sims isn't so interested in that idea.

Kooch bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Sims thows a body shot but no joy.
Kooch catches Sims with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
A looping hook to the body misses from Sims. Kooch does a little dance to reset his feet.
Sims fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kooch manages to avoid it.
Sims scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kooch jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

Sims shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Sims was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Sims has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Kooch tries to hold on but Sims pushes him away.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Kooch is looking to get to half guard.
Sims wants to control the pace but Kooch is squirming around nicely.

Sims seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kooch for as long as he can get away with.

and Sims takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Sims misses with a hook. Kooch ducked under it nicely.
Kooch misses with a takedown attempt - Sims sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Kooch might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Sims changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kooch tries to avoid it but Sims manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kooch to the ground. Kooch escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Kooch drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kooch jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Kooch drops back looking for a leg! Sims is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sims manages to kick Kooch off! Kooch jumps back into Sims's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kooch is pushing down on Sims's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sims is fighting to maintain full guard but Kooch has managed to sneak the leg through.
Mike Kooch has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sims is pressing down on Kooch's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Sims is looking to stand up but Kooch isn't so interested in that idea.
Kooch trying to control but Sims is working from the bottom.
Mark Sims is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sims manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kooch manages to get himself to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Mike Kooch.
Well Sims has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
