PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between August Derleth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dennis Tretow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tretow has chosen Days of Thunder as his entrance music. The key to victory for August Derleth has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, August Derleth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dennis Tretow!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Derleth clinches.
Tretow has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Derleth avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Derleth really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Derleth dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Derleth is pressed up against the cage. Tretow has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Derleth down to the mat. Derleth avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Derleth tries to clinch up but Tretow circles away and keeps his distance.

Derleth stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Derleth wants it to stay on the feet.
August Derleth has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dennis Tretow.

Tretow shoots in for a takedown but Derleth shows good takedown defense.

Derleth leaves Tretow with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Derleth tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tretow swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Derleth scores with a head kick. Tretow tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Derleth gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Tretow to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Derleth is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Derleth is looking to stand back up but Tretow counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Derleth.
Tretow prevents Derleth from standing back up.

Derleth is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Tretow gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Derleth tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tretow swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Derleth tries to clinch but Tretow moves out of range.
Good leg kick by Tretow there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Horrible takedown by Tretow or perhaps it was just good defense by Derleth which made him look bad.

Tretow scores a takedown into full mount!
Derleth wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Derleth slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Derleth is looking for a sweep. Tretow is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Derleth is refusing to be controlled, as Tretow sits in half guard.
Derleth is looking to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Derleth trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Tretow slows the pace down in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
I looks like Tretow might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dennis Tretow was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Tretow shoots in but no luck this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dennis Tretow dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Derleth pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Tretow shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Derleth wants to get back to his feet.
Derleth wants to control but Tretow is keeping busy.
Derleth wants to get back to his feet.
Tretow wants to pass the guard but Derleth is defending well.

Derleth wants to get back to his feet.
Tretow controlling the action here.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Dennis Tretow has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
A cross from Derleth lands.
Tretow swats away the attempt to clinch by Derleth.
Derleth throws a sloppy head kick and Tretow moves out of range easily.
Derleth closes the distance but Tretow moves to the side
and Tretow counters with a head kick.
Derleth lands with a slapping head kick.
Tretow swats away the attempt to clinch by Derleth.
The fight stays on the outside here - Derleth looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Derleth slaps away a takedown attempt from Tretow, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Derleth darts in and clinches Tretow up against the cage.
Derleth connects with a knee to the head.

Tretow manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Derleth wants to control from the top but Tretow keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Derleth wants to stand but Tretow is controlling his posture from full guard.

Tretow is trying to keep Derleth in close.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Derleth is looking to clinch.
Tretow takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
August Derleth is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Tretow counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Derleth!
Tretow can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Derleth is looking to escape.
You get the feeling that Derleth really doesn't like being in this position too much.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dennis Tretow showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Tretow shoots for a takedown but Derleth saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Derleth tries to clinch but fails miserably

You can see the frustration on Derleth's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Tretow is looking to take a break and control but Derleth is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Derleth stops Tretow from passing to mount.
Tretow advances nicely into full mount.
Tretow trying to control but Derleth is having none of it.
Derleth wants to hold on but Tretow pushes him away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Tretow looking to control but Derleth is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Tretow takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Derleth is wriggling around trying to escape.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Tretow controlling from mount.
Dennis Tretow is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Derleth moves to clinch but Tretow breaks away

and Tretow counters with a takedown into side control.
Tretow tries to move to mount but Derleth blocks the move with his legs.

Derleth tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Tretow presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Derleth is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Derleth tries to hold on but Tretow postures up.
Derleth tries to reverse the position but Tretow maintains control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dennis Tretow comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Tretow winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
