PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Clay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joey Hood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hood has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joey Hood!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Dean Styles and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clay bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.


That has opened up Joey Hood's cut even more.
Hood looks gassed!
Clay scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Clay.

Clay scores with a takedown into Hood's guard.
Clay throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hood works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Clay trying to control but Hood is working from the bottom.
Clay is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hood is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Clay might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Clay drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Clay jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Clay fails to land with a series of punches.

Clay shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hood manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Clay seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Clay missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Clay stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Clay shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hood as he avoids it easily.

Clay is struggling to control the position.

Clay drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Clay decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Clay tries to control but Hood wriggling away.

Clay has hold of Hood's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Hood manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Clay wants to take Hood's back but he can't do it this time.

Clay is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hood can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Hood wants to control but Clay is having none of it.
Clay lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Clay looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Hood avoids a series of strikes thrown by Clay.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hood swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Clay cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Clay scores with a takedown into Hood's guard.

Clay decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Clay.

Clay scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Clay passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hood!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Clay can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hood is looking to escape.
Clay unloads with some shots from mount but Hood bucks and avoids them well.

Hood is squirming around, avoiding Clay's attempts to control the action.
Clay is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Clay fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Clay stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Clay here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Clay shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hood manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Sloppy strikes from Clay. Those never looked like landing.
Clay could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Clay dives in and grabs Hood's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hood pushes down on Clay's head and hops out.
Hood takes a jab right on the kisser.
Nice shot by Clay.
Clay dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Clay changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Clay closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Hood is trying to control Clay's posture but Clay avoids it.
Hood is letting Clay control him for a moment.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Clay is putting a hurting on Hood here, landing some big shots from side control.
Clay wants to control but Hood is keeping him busy.
Clay cracks Hood with a big right hand but Hood just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Clay wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hood, who protects the arm well.

Clay is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hood has escaped the position, nice work there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Clay throws a strike aimed at the side of Hood's head but Hood avoids it well.
Hood really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Clay. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Clay is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hood has escaped the position, nice work there.

Clay thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Clay looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Clay tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Jake Clay is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
A lull in the action here as Clay stalls from top position.

Clay is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hood has escaped the position, nice work there.
Joey Hood has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Clay slows the pace down.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jake Clay showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Clay has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
