The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shukshin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by velazquez.
Shukshin feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to velazquez's calf.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - velazquez has eaten all the pies!

velazquez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Shukshin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
velazquez has gone for a leg lock! Shukshin slips out almost immediately though and dives into velazquez's guard.
velazquez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
