Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bob Baran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian McGilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baran's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Beach Boys - Barbara Ann . Brian McGilla has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Bob Baran's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bob Baran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Brian McGilla!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baran keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
McGilla tries to clinch but Baran is having none of it.

McGilla shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Baran manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Baran is on top in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McGilla can do anything to dispel that myth.

McGilla is looking for a sweep. Baran is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Baran is keen to just control but McGilla is a slippery customer.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Baran is keen to just control but McGilla is a slippery customer.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
McGilla shoots in but Baran avoids the takedown attempt easily.
McGilla closes this distance looking for a takedown but Baran circles away.
Bob Baran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian McGilla.

Baran throws a nice looking combination but McGilla bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Baran takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
McGilla throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
McGilla throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

McGilla rushes Baran and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Baran is trying to break the clinch but McGilla is controlling him.
Baran wants to get back to striking at distance but McGilla won't allow it.

McGilla closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McGilla lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McGilla wants to stand and escape but instead Baran has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Baran stands and throws McGilla's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Baran is looking to take a break and control but McGilla is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Baran is really struggling to control McGilla but he's trying to hold on to the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bob Baran will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


McGilla ducks right into an uppercut from Baran.

McGilla drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
McGilla is looking to take a break and control but Baran is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Baran manages to work his way to half guard, despite McGilla's best efforts.

McGilla is taking a breather. Baran says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Baran slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Baran bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McGilla's guard.
Baran will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Baran gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McGilla tries to bum rush Baran with a series of wild strikes but Baran uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Baran throws a lazy right hand but McGilla sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Baran stuffs the takedown attempt from McGilla. McGilla gets slowly back to his feet.
McGilla is breathing heavily.
Baran pulls out of a head kick attempt.
McGilla has a takedown stuffed.

McGilla closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Baran to the mat! Baran manages to get full guard.
McGilla wants to control from the top but Baran keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Baran is on top in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Baran sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed McGilla's guard.
McGilla is not content to let Baran control the position.

Baran decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
McGilla throws a wild body kick that Baran sees coming a mile off.
Baran lands a lovely overhand right.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nice defenses there by McGilla.
Baran takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
McGilla fails with a takedown attempt.
Bob Baran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian McGilla.
McGilla blocks a jab.
McGilla takes one to the chin there.
Baran swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and McGilla decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Baran's guard.
McGilla must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Baran is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A close second round but Brian McGilla will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

McGilla closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

McGilla is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
McGilla takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Baran unloads with some shots from mount but McGilla bucks and avoids them well.
McGilla is squirming around, avoiding Baran's attempts to control the action.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Baran is going oldschool here, as he tries to force McGilla to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so McGilla shrugs it off.

Baran misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
