PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paul Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jean Sebastien Blais (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blais comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Metallica - One kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Jones!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jean Sebastien Blais!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blais will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Blais avoids the head kick by Jones.

Blais closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jones did well to prevent Blais getting side control.
Blais wants to free his trapped foot but Jones is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Blais is trying to work for a kimura but Jones is defending well.
Jones throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Blais is looking to take a break and control but Jones is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Blais not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Blais working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Jones wants to control but Blais is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Blais on the ground.

Blais is working for a submission of some sort.
Blais is looking to take a break and control but Jones is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Blais is looking to advance position but Jones won't allow it.
Jones has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Blais is working away from the top position though.
Jones wants to improve his position but Blais is controlling well.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Blais wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy.
Blais throws a strike but Jones avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Blais postures up in Jones's guard and throws a big left but Jones blocks it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Blais accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Blais wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Blais controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Blais won't allow Jones to get back to his feet.
Jones trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Blais forces his way into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Blais thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Blais is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Jones!
Blais content just to control the position here.

Blais is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Jones has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Jones!
Blais is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Blais is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Blais pulls Jones in close to prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A telegraphed right hand from Blais misses the target.
Blais looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Blais looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Blais moves forwards but Jones connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Blais misses with a double jab.
Blais lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jones circles away quickly and effectively.
Blais misses with the combination.
Jones throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Jones lands a nice looking body kick.
Blais is breathing heavily.
Jones scores with a push kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones lands a nice looking body kick.
Blais moves out of range as Jones throws a body kick.
A jab lands there for Jones.
Jones throws a hook but Blais avoids it easily.
Blais lands a jab-cross combination.
Jones pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Jones scores with a shot to the body.
A thudding body kick lands there by Jones!
Jean Sebastien Blais seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones lands with a nice body kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jones lands a big head kick that sends Blais tumbling to the mat! Jones takes a step backwards and waves Blais back to his feet - he wants the finish!


It looks like Jean Sebastien Blais has been cut.
Blais blocks a head kick by Jones.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones cracks Blais on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Blais falls backwards against the cage. Jones follows up with more strikes that drop Blais to his knees. Jones keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Blais! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:06 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paul Jones!
Paul Jones retains his lightweight title!
