PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andy James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Badr Hari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Andy James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Badr Hari!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paul Aken and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hari tries to clinch there but James circles away.
James fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hari shoots in but no luck this time.
Sloppy strikes from Hari. Those never looked like landing.
Hari dodges the punch combination from James.

James tries to keep at a distance but Hari has taken the fight into the clinch.
Hari throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Hari pulls James into guard.
James looking to pass the guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James postures up in Hari's guard and throws a big left but Hari blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hari can do anything to dispel that myth.
James trying to control but Hari is working from the bottom.

James loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hari not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Badr Hari was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Hari lands a head kick. James smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

and Hari counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in James's guard now.
James is trying to keep Hari in close.
Hari wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.
Hari wanted to stand there but James had control of the position.
Hari must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

James can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hari controls the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
James misses with the combination.
Hari shoots in looking for a takedown. James tries to sprawl out of it but Hari keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. James manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Hari misses with a takedown attempt - James sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Andy James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Badr Hari.

Hari bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
James takes a swing at Hari's ribcage but misses.

and Hari counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in James's guard now.

James working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hari doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hari manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hari has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of James is proving hard to escape from.
James keeping moving, preventing Hari from controlling successfully.
James is trying to control the position but Hari postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Badr Hari dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Hari gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, James regains guard.
Hari tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard.
Hari wants to stand and escape but instead James has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Hari throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Hari is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
James misses with some strikes from the bottom.
James is not content to let Hari control the position.
Hari is looking to advance position but James won't allow it.

Hari wants to control but James is keeping him busy.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Badr Hari wasn't active enough on the ground.

James clinches with his opponent.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Hari breaks the clinch.
Hari stuffs the takedown.
James shoots in for a takedown but Hari shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
James throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

and Hari counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hari.
Hari has James pressed against the cage, preventing James from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Hari has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. James is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Hari is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
James tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andy James. That's going to take a lot out of him.
James drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hari gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Hari is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Hari wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Hari shoots in for a takedown but James shows good takedown defense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
James tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hari sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten James somewhat.
Hari avoids the body shot from James.
Hari tries for a takedown but James sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and James counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by James.
Hari has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. James avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Hari trying to stall but James improves his position.
James is trying to push Hari away but Hari has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Hari tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and James avoids it.
Hari is breathing heavily.
James tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hari smiles and moves away.
A nice combination there by James.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Badr Hari will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


James doesn't manage to clinch there - Hari circles away.


It looks like Badr Hari has been cut.
James looks to land a right hand but Hari moved out of range.
Nice sprawl there from Hari as James shoots in.
Hari fails with an attempt to clinch.
James shoots in but no luck this time.
Andy James is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Hari moves into the clinch successfully.
Hari is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. James is defending well for now.

Hari jumps guard and drags James to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
James wants to control from the top but Hari keeps moving.

James is pushing down on Hari's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hari is fighting to maintain full guard but James has managed to sneak the leg through.
James throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
James thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hari's head.

James is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hari sees it coming and defends easily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

James passes to side control.
Hari tries to buck James off but James is having none of it.
James throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Hari sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Hari is trying to defend against the ground and pound but James scores with a couple of nice shots.

James wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hari keeps working.
James blocks the strikes from Hari.
Hari is trying to maintain the position but James is very close to passing his half guard.
Hari is looking for a sweep. James is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hari has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. James is working away from the top position though.
Hari is looking to improve his position.
Hari wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
James moves into full mount! Hari won't be happy about that!

James fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That has opened up Badr Hari's cut even more.

James swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Hari is now in James's guard. A big mistake from James there, giving up the dominant position!
Badr Hari is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Hari tries to stand but James is controlling from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
Andy James showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Hari has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
