The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shield tries to close the distance and clinch but Fernandez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Shield is breathing heavily.
Shield moves forwards but Fernandez connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Fernandez waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Shield.
Fernandez dips to his left and cracks Shield with an uppercut!
Fernandez lands with a nice body punch.
Fernandez lands with a hook. Shield tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fernandez attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Fernandez connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

It looks like Matt Shield has been cut.
Shield on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Fernandez throws a monster overhand right that drops Shield! Fernandez follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!
