PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Akira Kurosawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Goldman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kurosawa comes to the cage accompanied by War drums. Goldman is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Muse - Uprising. Tommy Goldman acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Akira Kurosawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tommy Goldman!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That kick from Kurosawa tenderised Goldman's leg. Goldman is trying to keep his angry face on.
Kurosawa throws a wild body kick that Goldman sees coming a mile off.
Kurosawa shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Goldman has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Kurosawa.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Goldman tries to clinch there but Kurosawa circles away.
Goldman fails in his attempt to clinch.

Kurosawa moves into the clinch.
Kurosawa throws a punch but it's blocked by Goldman.
Goldman scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Goldman slows down the pace here.
Kurosawa tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Goldman just stands there and leans against the cage.

Kurosawa fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Akira Kurosawa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kurosawa jumps guard but Goldman stands there with Kurosawa around his waist. Kurosawa gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Kurosawa ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Kurosawa no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Goldman decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Kurosawa dives in and grabs Goldman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Goldman pushes down on Kurosawa's head and hops out.

and Kurosawa counters with a nice leg kick.

Kurosawa pulls guard effortlessly.
Kurosawa is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Goldman is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Goldman throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kurosawa works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kurosawa looking for a guillotine here but Goldman defends easily.

Goldman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kurosawa has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Goldman has managed to get both his arms back between Kurosawa's legs - danger averted.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Akira Kurosawa will probably get the nod.
That's time! Kurosawa's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Goldman closes the distance but Kurosawa moves to the side

Tommy Goldman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Goldman clinches but Kurosawa breaks the clinch
and Kurosawa makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Kurosawa bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Kurosawa lands a nice leg kick that just misses Goldman's sensitive parts.

and Kurosawa counters with a single leg into guard. Goldman didn't expect that.

Kurosawa wants to control from the top but Goldman keeps moving.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kurosawa accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Goldman is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kurosawa is controlling him.
Kurosawa trying to control the position from guard on top but Goldman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kurosawa postures up in Goldman's guard and throws a big left but Goldman blocks it.
Kurosawa sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Goldman's guard.
Goldman won't allow Kurosawa to pass to mount.

Kurosawa is working for a submission of some sort.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kurosawa is keen to just control but Goldman is a slippery customer.

Kurosawa is trying to work for a kimura but Goldman is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akira Kurosawa dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!

and Kurosawa counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
A nice leg kick lands there from Kurosawa.
Goldman tries to clinch but Kurosawa moves away
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Kurosawa throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Kurosawa attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Goldman moves out of range of the leg kick from Kurosawa.

Kurosawa walks into a jab.
Goldman closes the distance looking to clinch
and Kurosawa counters with an outside leg kick.
Kurosawa throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Goldman looks to clinch
and Kurosawa counters with a solid body kick.
Tommy Goldman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Goldman misses with a series of wild punches.
Kurosawa lands a head kick!

and Kurosawa counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Goldman is working Kurosawa over against the cage.
Goldman lands a hook that snaps the head of Kurosawa backwards.

Kurosawa manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Goldman tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kurosawa knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Goldman looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Goldman is working for a kimura but Kurosawa is defending it quite comfortably.

Goldman is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Akira Kurosawa showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kurosawa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
