Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jonathan Ratcliffe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lee Hazelwood! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ratcliffe shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Ratcliffe shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hazelwood defends it nicely. Ratcliffe fails to land the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jonathan Ratcliffe. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ratcliffe shoots in looking for a takedown but Hazelwood manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ratcliffe's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Hazelwood shoots in and gets a takedown into Ratcliffe's guard. Hazelwood is looking to stand up but Ratcliffe won't let him. Ratcliffe is working an open guard so Hazelwood takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Ratcliffe gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Hazelwood decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ratcliffe's guard. Hazelwood tries to stand but Ratcliffe is controlling from the bottom. Hazelwood got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ratcliffe has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hazelwood has managed to get both his arms back between Ratcliffe's legs - danger averted. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Ratcliffe had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hazelwood defends it easily. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hazelwood gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ratcliffe gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Hazelwood counters with a shoot takedown. Ratcliffe fights it but they end up in guard. Ratcliffe is breathing heavily. Hazelwood wants to stand but Ratcliffe has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Hazelwood drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hazelwood jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Ratcliffe will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Hazelwood stands and steps away. Ratcliffe gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Hazelwood is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ratcliffe's half guard. Ratcliffe looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Hazelwood tries to stand and escape but Ratcliffe is controlling the position. Ratcliffe has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Hazelwood. Oh but Ratcliffe has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Hazelwood goes limp - he's gone! Ratcliffe jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
