PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Lunar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andle Riddum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lucas Lunar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andle Riddum!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lunar slow jab from Riddum misses its intended target.
Riddum avoids the head kick by Lunar.
Riddum throws an off balance right hand
and Lunar counters with a series of strikes. Riddum will be more careful next time no doubt.

Riddum bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Lunar is looking to regain half guard here but Riddum keeps moving and retains side control.
Lunar gets back to half guard.
Lunar wants to improve his position but Riddum is controlling well.
It looks like Riddum is going to stand back up.
Lunar tries to get to full guard but Riddum has control of the leg.
Lunar gets back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Lunar had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Riddum is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Lunar Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Riddum's back instead.
Riddum looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
Riddum needs to remain patient if he's going to get out of this sticky situation.
Lunar is trying to control but Riddum is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.
Riddum is trying to stand.
Lunar working some short elbows here. He postures up to throw some more ground and pound but Riddum slips a leg through to get back to half guard. Nice work.
Riddum wants to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lunar thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Lunar is pressing down on Riddum's thigh, looking to free his foot. Riddum is holding on for now.

Lunar is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Riddum defends it well.
Lunar wants to control but Riddum is keeping him busy.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Riddum blocks a head kick by Lunar.
Lunar swings widly with a right hand

and Riddum counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lunar won't be happy with that.
Lunar is looking for a sweep.
Lunar struggling a bit here.

Lunar gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Riddum looks gassed!

Lunar looking for submissions off his back.
Lunar trying to control here.
Riddum prevents Lunar from improving his position.
Lunar manages to get to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Riddum won't allow Lunar to sweep him here.
Riddum must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Lunar is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Lunar working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Riddum doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Riddum manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Riddum wants to get up but he can't break Lunar's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Lunar isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Riddum stacks Lunar on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Riddum!
Lunar manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Andle Riddum will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Riddum lands a nice leg kick that just misses Lunar's sensitive parts.
Lunar tries to clinch up

and Riddum counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Lunar!
Lunar is trying desperately to improve position.
Riddum avoids the attempt from Lunar to control.
Lunar sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Riddum wants to get back to his feet.
Lunar is looking for a sweep. Riddum is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Lunar looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lunar wants to control but Riddum passes into side.
Lunar manages to work his way to half guard, despite Riddum's best efforts.
Riddum not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Riddum tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Lunar.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Lunar actively working from the bottom here.
Riddum keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Let's hope that Riddum has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Lunar gets back to full guard.

Lunar has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Riddum doesn't defend quickly enough and Lunar has managed to lock this one up! Can Riddum escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Lunar on a fantastic submission victory.
