PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Wenydll Chael (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Eagle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Wenydll Chael!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Eagle!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Eagle.
Eagle avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Wenydll Chael seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chael shoots for a takedown but Eagle saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Eagle looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Chael is fending him off so far but Eagle persists. Nope, Chael circles away and we're back to standing.
Chael throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Eagle sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Eagle feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Chael is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Eagle is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Chael might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Eagle controlling from the top position.
Eagle wants to pass the guard but Chael is keeping the position.
Eagle is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by David Eagle.

Eagle has managed to clinch.
Chael wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Chael misses with a punch on the inside.

Eagle jumps guard and drags Chael to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Eagle escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chael gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Chael pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Eagle is keeping the position for now.
Chael is breathing heavily.
Chael wants to stand but Eagle has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Eagle manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Chael wants to hold on but Eagle pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Eagle landing punches.
Eagle putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Eagle dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Eagle closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Eagle lands in his opponent's guard.
Eagle controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Eagle sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Chael's guard.
Chael is looking to escape.

Eagle escapes and gets back to his feet.

Eagle decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Eagle trying to control the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by David Eagle.

Eagle looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Chael!

Eagle is landing with some decent strikes but Chael is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Eagle lands with some strikes.

Eagle looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Eagle working the ground and pound effectively.
Eagle tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Eagle swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
