PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sepp Maier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maier comes into the arena with Apaga mas não bate blaring out of the sound system. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Sepp Maier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Ivan Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Glass and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maier rushes Emelianenko and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Maier pulls guard successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maier looking for a guillotine here but Emelianenko defends easily.

Maier working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Emelianenko doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Emelianenko manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Emelianenko avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Emelianenko trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Maier manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Maier drops back, looking for a kneebar! Emelianenko looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Emelianenko looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Emelianenko!
Emelianenko advances to mount.

Emelianenko trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Maier is working to get back to half guard.

Maier is bucking up trying to escape but Emelianenko cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Emelianenko prevents Maier from getting the reversal.
Emelianenko lands a big elbow.
BOOM! Emelianenko connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Maier swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Maier sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Maier kicks Emelianenko off and gets back to his feet.
Ivan Emelianenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maier fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Emelianenko throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Maier.

Emelianenko scores a takedown into full mount!
Maier is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Emelianenko looking to control but Maier is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Emelianenko looking to control and managing it successfully.
Maier tries to reverse the position but Emelianenko maintains control.

Emelianenko controlling the pace for now.
Maier manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Emelianenko is looking to take a break and control but Maier is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ivan Emelianenko wasn't active enough on the ground.
Maier displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Emelianenko throws out the jab.
Emelianenko keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Maier is looking to clinch but Emelianenko is avoiding it.
Emelianenko circles away from the clinch attempt.
Emelianenko swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Maier scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Maier tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Emelianenko is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Maier off and has taken his back!
Maier is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Emelianenko.
Maier manages to reverse the position and now he's in Emelianenko's guard. Nice work there by Maier.
Emelianenko is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Maier drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Emelianenko manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Maier has Emelianenko in his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ivan Emelianenko dominated that round.
That's time! Maier's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Emelianenko throws a shot from downtown. Maier moves away and avoids it.
Emelianenko throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Sepp Maier is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A big right from Emelianenko misses.
Emelianenko missing with a left hand there. Maier was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maier doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Emelianenko counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

and Emelianenko counters with a left to the body.

The fighters circling - Emelianenko throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Emelianenko swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Emelianenko connects with the punch.
Emelianenko misses with a straight right.
Maier slips a jab from Emelianenko.
Maier takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Maier has his takedown stuffed
and Emelianenko counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Maier thinking.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sepp Maier. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Emelianenko just misses with a punch to the body.
Emelianenko fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Maier manages to avoid it.
Emelianenko lands a nice shot that snaps Maier's head back.

Emelianenko throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Emelianenko throws a hook but Maier blocks it.
Emelianenko looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Emelianenko drops Maier with a right and a left! Emelianenko comes rushing in but Maier regains his composure and manages to keep Emelianenko in guard.


Maier is rocked!
Emelianenko gets to his feet and stands over Maier, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Maier felt that one! Emelianenko unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Maier from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ivan Emelianenko!
