PBP Commentary

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Isaac Wankerl!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wankerl closes this distance looking for a takedown but Robson circles away.
Wankerl tries to close the distance and clinch up but Robson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Wankerl fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Robson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Robson connects with a crisp jab.
Wankerl looks for a takedown but Robson sprawls well.
Nathan Robson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Isaac Wankerl.
Wankerl looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Robson is fending him off so far but Wankerl persists. Nope, Robson circles away and we're back to standing.
Robson misses with a two punch combination.
Wankerl shoots in but no luck this time.
Robson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wankerl moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Robson throws a lazy right hand but Wankerl sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Wankerl shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Wankerl is trying to work for a kimura but Robson is defending well.

Robson throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Robson is looking for a sweep. Wankerl is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Robson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Wankerl pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Robson is keeping the position for now.
Wankerl not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Wankerl is looking to advance position but Robson has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Robson throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Robson throws a head kick but Wankerl moves out of range.
Robson swats away the attempt to clinch by Wankerl.
Wankerl shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Robson as he avoids it easily.

Robson is trying to get back to full guard.

Wankerl is trying to work for a kimura but Robson is defending well.

Robson is looking to improve his position.
Wankerl is breathing heavily.
Wankerl moves nicely into side control.
Wankerl staying calm.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Wankerl is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Robson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Robson is looking for a sweep.
Robson being controlled for a moment.

Wankerl goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Robson has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Wankerl but great work by Robson.

Robson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Wankerl is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Wankerl is looking to regain half guard here but Robson keeps moving and retains side control.
Wankerl wants to control but Robson postures up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Robson swings around for an armbar but Wankerl sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Robson's guard.
Wankerl controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Wankerl thows a big elbow that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Isaac Wankerl showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Wankerl is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Wankerl closes this distance looking for a takedown but Robson circles away.
Robson tries to clinch up

and Wankerl counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Wankerl.
Robson has had enough of the clinch but Wankerl keeps him there for the moment.
Robson is looking to break free of the clinch but Wankerl has double underhooks.
Robson wants to break the clinch but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Robson is pressed up against the cage. Wankerl has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Robson down to the mat. Robson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Nathan Robson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Wankerl fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Robson sprawls well initially but Wankerl persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Wankerl takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Robson won't allow Wankerl to pass to mount.
Wankerl wants to lay and pray for a moment but Robson keeps working.

Robson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Wankerl's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Wankerl's back!
Wankerl tries to roll but Robson sticks to his back.
Wankerl looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Wankerl is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Wankerl trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Robson doesn't have the hooks in and Wankerl manages to turn into his guard.
Wankerl looking to sit in guard and control but Robson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Robson advances to half guard.

Robson is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Wankerl has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wankerl tries to get to full guard but Robson has control of the leg.
Wankerl trying to control but Robson postures up.
Wankerl is trying to control but Robson manages to pass to mount!
Robson lands a big shot there that rocks Wankerl but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wankerl is working to get back to half guard.
Wankerl slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Robson is thwarting Wankerl's attempts to control the position.
Wankerl wants to improve his position but Robson is controlling well.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Nathan Robson.
I think Robson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
