Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pierre Gander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xavier Goostree (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pierre Gander could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Xavier Goostree's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pierre Gander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Xavier Goostree!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Summer Carpenter and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Goostree as Gander shoots in.

Goostree throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gander was covering up waiting for the punch and Goostree finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Gander is trying to keep Goostree in close.
Goostree lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Goostree is looking to advance position but Gander has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Goostree is trying to escape the mount.
Gander controlling the pace for now.
Gander thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gander trying to control but Goostree is having none of it.
Gander takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Gander misses with a head shot.
Goostree tries to reverse the position but Gander maintains control.
Gander fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Goostree avoids a series of strikes thrown by Gander.
Gander trying to control but Goostree is having none of it.
Gander postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Goostree looks a forlorn figure.

Goostree gets back to half guard.
Goostree is refusing to be controlled, as Gander sits in half guard.
Goostree trying to control from the bottom.
Goostree is looking for a sweep. Gander is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Gander moves into full mount! Goostree won't be happy about that!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Goostree tries to hold on but Gander pushes him away.
Gander looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Gander with shots to the head and body - Goostree looks very uncomfortable down there.

Gander stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

and Gander counters by clinching up.

Gander lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Gander works his way into full mount!
Goostree looks gassed!
Gander tries to control but Goostree wriggling away.

Gander goes for an armbar but Goostree turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Goostree.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gander wants to stand up but Goostree is controlling him.
Goostree pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gander is keeping the position for now.
Gander has a closed guard, preventing Goostree from standing up.
Gander lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Goostree!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pierre Gander dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Gander tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gander shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Goostree cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Goostree tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Gander counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Gander is thwarting Goostree's attempts to control the position.
Gander is pressing down on Goostree's thigh, looking to free his foot. Goostree is holding on for now.
Goostree is controlling Gander's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Goostree trying to control from the bottom.
Gander throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Goostree wants to stand back up but Gander manages to pass into side control.
Goostree is breathing heavily.
Gander trying to control the position but Goostree is working away.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Goostree gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Goostree really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gander. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gander gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Goostree misses with a takedown attempt

so Gander counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Gander throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Gander has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gander controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Pierre Gander overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gander trying to control the position from guard on top but Goostree is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gander tries to free his leg and advance position but Goostree is retaining full guard.
Gander trying to control but Goostree is working from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gander accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Goostree working for submissions but it's allowed Gander to get to half guard.
Gander is keen to just control but Goostree is a slippery customer.
Gander passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Goostree!
Gander lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Gander unloading with bombs!

Gander can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Goostree is looking to escape.

Gander looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Gander postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Goostree looks a forlorn figure.

Gander with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Goostree takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pierre Gander dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Gander gets the takedown into side control.
Gander landing a few strikes.
Gander happy to just control the position for now.
Gander wants to take a breather but Goostree manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Gander.

Goostree is trying to control the position but Gander postures up.

Goostree is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Goostree takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Gander wants to pass the guard but Goostree is keeping the position.
Goostree trying to keep a closed guard but Gander is proving a slippery customer.
Gander postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gander wants to control from the top but Goostree keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Gander scores with a takedown into Goostree's guard.
Gander loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gander trying to control the position from guard on top but Goostree is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gander is really struggling to control Goostree but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Goostree is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Gander not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Gander forces his way into half guard.
Gander lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Gander wants to take a breather but Goostree is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Pierre Gander.
Goostree fails with the takedown

and Gander counters with a nice double leg into side control. Goostree won't be happy with that.

Gander stands up.

Gander shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Gander stands up from half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Pierre Gander showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gander, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
