Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Isiah Kemp! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Leslie Chau! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kemp takes a body punch but keeps moving. No luck with that takedown attempt from Kemp. Kemp connects with a nice looking jab.
Kemp throws a body kick that misses. Kemp throws a right and a left that both miss. Chau takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
A punch combination from Kemp misses. Kemp misses with a wild combination.
Kemp looks to land a combination but Chau avoids it well. Kemp shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Chau's guard. Kemp throws and elbow that misses. Chau uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kemp's guard. Nice move by Chau! Chau is fighting to break Kemp's control of his arms but Kemp is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Chau has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kemp is proving hard to escape from.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chau preventing the sweep. Chau trying to control but Kemp is working from the bottom. Kemp doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Kemp is striking off his back. Chau thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard. Chau wants to control but Kemp is keeping him busy. The fighters are battling for position here. Kemp manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Chau trying to control but Kemp is working from the bottom. Chau is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Chau slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Kemp tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Kemp keeping moving, preventing Chau from controlling successfully. Chau seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kemp throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Kemp wants to stand up but Chau is controlling him. Kemp trying to keep a closed guard but Chau is proving a slippery customer.
Kemp is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Chau is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Chau is trying to stand up here but Kemp is controlling him well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chau tries to get to full guard but Kemp has control of the leg. Kemp prevents Chau from standing back up.
Kemp is looking to take a break and control but Chau is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Kemp tries to pass the half guard into mount. Chau knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Kemp throws a strike but Chau avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Kemp looking to pass the guard.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Chau takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. A combination from Chau does no damage. Good work by Chau as he checks the leg kick. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Chau is defended easily by Kemp. Chau tries to clinch there but Kemp circles away.
Kemp shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kemp showed some decent athleticism there. Kemp thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Chau's head. Chau is staying active underneath Kemp, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Kemp thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Chau's head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Isiah Kemp dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Kemp throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Kemp throws a leg kick but Chau sees it coming and checks it nicely. Kemp connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Chau tries a head kick but it misses.
Kemp throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Chau throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kemp. Kemp swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Chau counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters. Kemp swings and misses with a hook to the body.
The fighters circle momentarily. Kemp darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Chau slips a straight right by Kemp. Chau connects with a high kick. Chau blocks a jab. Kemp throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Chau ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kemp moves away. Kemp misses with a jab, cross combination.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chau lands with a nice combination. Kemp backs away looking to recover.
Kemp is rocked! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Kemp falls off balance throwing a combination
and Chau counters with a leg kick. Oh Kemp is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Kemp throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Chau counters with a body kick. Kemp seems to have got his legs back now. A decent looking body kick lands there for Chau. Chau closes the distance and lands a one-two. Whack! Chau lands a heavy head kick that drops Kemp. The ref tackles Chau to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Kemp was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Leslie Chau!
