PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Stark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drake Vonstein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stark comes to the cage accompanied by Iron Man-Black Sabbath. Vonstein has chosen Seether - Remedy as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Drake Vonstein has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Stark!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Drake Vonstein!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vonstein ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Stark swings for the body but Vonstein moves out of range.
Vonstein misses with a hook.
Stark misses the body punch

and Vonstein counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Stark looking to control but Vonstein passes into half guard.
Stark is trying to control but can't.
Vonstein working over Stark with some ground and pound. Stark looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Vonstein has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Vonstein lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Stark is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Vonstein's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Vonstein's back!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Stark swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Vonstein takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Stark looks to score with a jab to the body but Vonstein is just out of range.

Anthony Stark seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stark gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Stark connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

No joy there for Stark, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Vonstein counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Stark's guard now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stark is pulling down on Vonstein's head. It's preventing any offense from Vonstein, at least for the moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That was a close round but I would say that Anthony Stark will probably get the nod.

Stark leaves Vonstein with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Vonstein is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Stark can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Vonstein tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vonstein has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Stark tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Vonstein wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Vonstein is looking to take a break and control but Stark is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Stark is staying active underneath Vonstein, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Drake Vonstein has got the better of the ground game so far.
Vonstein thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Stark not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Vonstein is working Stark over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Stark bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Vonstein's guard.
Stark wants to control from the top but Vonstein keeps moving.
Vonstein looking for a sweep. Not yet Vonstein, not yet.
Vonstein throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Vonstein is on top in guard.
Vonstein lands a couple of elbows.
Stark lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Vonstein!
