Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dominique Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith has chosen Madhouse as his entrance music. Alex Smith has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Eliza Hachem and Bruno Hogan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Horrible takedown by Smith or perhaps it was just good defense by Patterson which made him look bad.
Smith shoots for a takedown but Patterson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Patterson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Smith makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Patterson gets the takedown into side control.
Patterson throwing strikes but Smith manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Patterson tries to buck Smith off but Smith is having none of it.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Patterson keeps working.

Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Smith misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Patterson keeps working.
Patterson is looking to regain half guard here but Smith keeps moving and retains side control.

Patterson wants to control but Smith postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Patterson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Patterson advances nicely into full mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Patterson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Patterson trying to control but Smith is having none of it.
Smith is looking to get to half guard.
Smith looks gassed!

Patterson has hold of Smith's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Smith manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
A nice elbow there by Patterson.
Patterson blocks Smith's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Patterson tries to control but Smith wriggling away.

Smith wants to control but Patterson is having none of it.
Patterson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Smith is looking to escape.
Patterson lands a big elbow.
Smith tries to lock up and control but Patterson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Patterson scoring with strikes but Smith is staying in there.

Smith tries to roll over but Patterson keeps him under control.

Smith regains full guard. Nicely done.

Smith escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Patterson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Patterson passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Patterson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Smith manages to get back to half guard.
Smith trying to control but Patterson postures up.
Smith moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Smith is on top in guard.
Smith wants to control from the top but Patterson keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith working some strikes from top position.
Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Patterson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smith in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Smith drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smith jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Patterson wants to sweep here but Smith controlling him for the moment.

Smith drops back looking for a leg! Patterson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Patterson manages to kick Smith off! Smith jumps back into Patterson's guard.

Smith is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Patterson is striking off his back. Smith thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dominique Patterson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Patterson tries to clinch but Smith moves out of range.
Alex Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Smith clinches with his opponent.
Patterson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Smith gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Smith lands a takedown into guard.
Smith tries to free his leg and advance position but Patterson is retaining full guard.

Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Patterson keeps working.
Patterson is on the bottom, trying to hold on to half guard. He's throwing a few small shots here, to keep his opponent honest.
Smith wants to take a breather but Patterson is having none of it.

Smith is working for a submission of some sort.
Patterson tries to get to full guard but Smith has control of the leg.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Smith passes to side control.

Smith is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Patterson looks calm but he's in trouble here. Smith gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Patterson is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Smith lets go of the hold and Patterson can pop his arm back in it's socket.
