PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ming Xin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pentti Hirvonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Xin comes to the cage accompanied by Die Antwoord - Evil Boy. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Pentti Hirvonen was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ming Xin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pentti Hirvonen!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Sergei Dronov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hirvonen swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Hirvonen throws a hook but Xin avoids it easily.
Xin throws a jab but it's blocked by Hirvonen.
Xin misses the shot to the body.
Hirvonen misses with a looping right.
Hirvonen misses with a hook to the body
and Xin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Hirvonen misses with a low kick.
Hirvonen throws a series of punches but Xin moves out of range.
Xin cracks Hirvonen with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Hirvonen gets off balance looking for a body kick
letting Xin counter with a right hand.
Hirvonen throws out a loose jab but Xin uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hirvonen misses with a leg kick
and Xin cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Xin looks to land a left hand but Hirvonen moved out of range nicely.
Hirvonen motions for Xin to come forward. Hirvonen throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Hirvonen shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Xin lunges at Hirvonen with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Hirvonen's hand.

Xin gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hirvonen is looking to work some ground and pound but Xin has wrist control.
Hirvonen stands and throws Xin's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Hirvonen wants to take a breather but Xin manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Hirvonen.
Hirvonen is working Xin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hirvonen's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Hirvonen wants to control from the top but Xin keeps moving.
Hirvonen stands and throws Xin's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Hirvonen working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Xin is working to avoid the ground and pound but Hirvonen connects with a decent elbow.

Hirvonen looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The referee asks Hirvonen politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hirvonen prefers to stall for the moment though.

Hirvonen wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Xin, who protects the arm well.

Hirvonen goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Xin has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Hirvonen but great work by Xin.
Hirvonen seems a little lost for a moment, as Xin dominates the positioning.
Hirvonen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Xin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Xin tries for a kimura but Hirvonen is defending well.
Hirvonen is looking for a sweep.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Xin trying to control the action but Hirvonen is working from the bottom.
Xin laying and praying for a moment but Hirvonen takes advantage and regains half guard.
Xin prevents Hirvonen from improving his position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hirvonen throws a hook to the side of Xin's head but Xin sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ming Xin dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Xin misses with a shot to the body
and Xin takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Xin misses with an uppercut. Hirvonen saw that one coming.
Xin uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Hirvonen.
Hirvonen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hirvonen throws an overhand right that lands on Xin's shoulder, as Xin tries to avoid the shot.
Hirvonen tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Xin is able to avoid easily.
Hirvonen is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Xin.
Hirvonen scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hirvonen fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Xin manages to avoid it.

and Xin counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Hirvonen closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Ming Xin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pentti Hirvonen.
Hirvonen cracks Xin with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Xin is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Hirvonen fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Xin manages to avoid it.

Hirvonen misses with a takedown attempt
and Xin counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Hirvonen is breathing heavily.
Hirvonen throws a hook but Xin blocks it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Xin. Hirvonen does a little dance to reset his feet.
No luck for Hirvonen with that takedown attempt.
Xin slips a jab from Hirvonen.
Xin throws a jab but it's blocked by Hirvonen.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Hirvonen lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Hirvonen advances to half guard.
Hirvonen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Xin tries to roll over but Hirvonen keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hirvonen landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Hirvonen is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Hirvonen looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Hirvonen seems to be looking for submissions.
Hirvonen wants to control but Xin is keeping him busy.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Hirvonen throws a strike but Xin manages to get a kimura sweep and he's found himself on top with the kimura half locked in! This would be a real turnaround! He's torquing it... Will Hirvonen tap??? YES! He's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ming Xin!
