PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Derek Higginsworth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kjell Dillon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Higginsworth comes to the cage accompanied by Mr. Grinch. Dillon has chosen Pipes & Drums 1st Battalion Scots Guards as his entrance music. Kjell Dillon is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Derek Higginsworth!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kjell Dillon!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Higginsworth tries to land a front kick but Dillon steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Dillon scores with a crisp jab that stopped Higginsworth in his tracks.
Dillon cracks a nice hook into Higginsworth's ribs.
Dillon misses with a jab, cross combination.
Derek Higginsworth seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A bone on bone clash there as Dillon blocks the leg kick.
Dillon lands with a thumping leg kick.
Dillon lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Dillon throws a leg kick but Higginsworth sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Higginsworth tries a head kick but it misses.
Dillon tries for a takedown but Higginsworth sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Dillon lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Higginsworth has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Higginsworth and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Higginsworth lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Higginsworth uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dillon.
Higginsworth closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Dillon looks to land a combination. Higginsworth sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Dillon throws a sloppy head kick and Higginsworth moves out of range easily.

and Dillon counters with a stiff right hand.
Higginsworth is looking to slow Dillon down with leg kicks.
Higginsworth shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
A jab from Dillon does it's job there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dillon throws a lazy right hand but Higginsworth sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Higginsworth wants to slow Dillon down by chopping away at his legs.

Dillon gets the takedown into side control.
Dillon landing a few strikes.
Dillon trying to control the action but Higginsworth is working from the bottom.
Dillon might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Higginsworth kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Dillon swings around for an armbar but Higginsworth sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Dillon's guard.

Dillon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Dillon is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Higginsworth is just riding it out for now. Dillon eventually gives up the hold.
Dillon seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Higginsworth keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Dillon throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Dillon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Higginsworth does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Dillon throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Dillon tries to pass to full mount but Higginsworth defends it.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Dillon connects with a nice short shot to Higginsworth's temple.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dillon looks to land a strike but Higginsworth avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Dillon postures up in Higginsworth's guard and throws a big left but Higginsworth blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kjell Dillon dominated that round.
That's time! Higginsworth's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Jab, jab by Dillon - just one landing.
Dillon dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Dillon moves out of range as Higginsworth throws a body kick.
A low kick from Higginsworth misses
and Dillon counters with a low kick, right behind Higginsworth 's knee.
Higginsworth tries to land a body kick
and Dillon makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Dillon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Higginsworth is trying to defend but Dillon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Dillon is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Higginsworth has managed to free his arm - good work.

Dillon is trying to control. Higginsworth wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Dillon thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Higginsworth's head.
Dillon looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Higginsworth won't allow Dillon to pass to mount.
Dillon is keen to just control but Higginsworth is a slippery customer.
Dillon works his foot free and advances to mount.
Dillon tries to control but Higginsworth wriggling away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Dillon sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Dillon throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Higginsworth because Dillon loaded up on that one.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dillon takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Higginsworth is rocked!
Dillon has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Dillon postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Higginsworth in real trouble here! The ref calls for Higginsworth to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:02 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kjell Dillon!
