PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Pitta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunter has chosen The DOC vs Earshot as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The key to victory for Dennis Pitta has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dennis Pitta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Chad Campbell and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pitta misses with a few strikes there.
Pitta fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Pitta swinging wildly here.
A slow jab from Pitta misses its intended target.
Pitta scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
The fighters circle momentarily. Pitta darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Pitta looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
A looping hook to the body misses from Pitta. Hunter does a little dance to reset his feet.
Pitta misses with a hook.
Pitta moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hunter.
Hunter slips under a jab.

Pitta gets caught flat footed, as Hunter shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Hunter drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pitta manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hunter has Pitta in his guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hunter had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pitta defends it easily.

Hunter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pitta can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hunter bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pitta's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hunter trying to control but Pitta is working from the bottom.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Pitta holds on and takes a little breather.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pitta is on top in guard.

Hunter is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Pitta wants to stand and escape but instead Hunter has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Hunter trying to control but Pitta is working from the bottom.
Hunter passes Pitta's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Pitta regains full guard. Nicely done.

Hunter is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Hunter is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Pitta is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Pitta has escaped and now he's on top!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Pitta throws a series of punches but Hunter moves out of range.
Hunter showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Pitta.
Pitta bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hunter's head.
Pitta fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hunter manages to avoid it.
Pitta throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Hunter drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hunter tries to free his leg and advance position but Pitta is retaining full guard.
Hunter trying to control but Pitta is working from the bottom.

Pitta wants to stand but Hunter is controlling the position.
Hunter wants to control from the top but Pitta keeps moving.
Pitta managing to control the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Pitta keeping moving, preventing Hunter from controlling successfully.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Pitta throws a body punch but Hunter moves out of range.
Hunter slips a jab and a cross from Pitta.

Hunter uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Pitta.
Hunter defending well as Pitta loads up on a big left hand.

Hunter scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Hunter tries for a kimura but Pitta is defending well.

Hunter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Pitta, who protects the arm well.
You can see the frustration on Pitta's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Hunter is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Pitta has escaped the position, nice work there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Hunter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Pitta, who protects the arm well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Hunter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Pitta's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Hunter moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Pitta will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A jab from Pitta misses.
Pitta throws a nice looking combination but Hunter bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Dennis Pitta is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hunter fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Pitta changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hunter lands a two punch combo.
Pitta bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Pitta throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Hunter counters with a stiff right hand.
Hunter scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Pitta misses with a double jab

and Hunter counters with a nice double leg into side control. Pitta won't be happy with that.

Hunter wants to take a breather but Pitta manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Hunter.
Pitta wants to sweep here but Hunter controlling him for the moment.

Hunter drops back, looking for a kneebar! Pitta looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Pitta looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Pitta!
Hunter is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hunter trying to control but Pitta postures up.

Hunter is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pitta pulls his head out easily.
Hunter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hunter looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hunter wants to improve his position but Pitta is controlling well.
Pitta tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Hunter is trying to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Pitta wants to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Hunter darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Hunter is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jake Hunter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hunter has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
