The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cartman lands with a cross.
Shimada avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cartman.
Eric Cartman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shimada throws a big shot that misses.
Shimada ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cartman moves away.

Cartman looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cartman looks to land a strike but Shimada avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Cartman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Shimada wants to sweep but no luck.

Shimada is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cartman defends well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cartman postures up in Shimada's guard and throws a big left but Shimada blocks it.

Shimada has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cartman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Cartman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shimada swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cartman is looking to work some ground and pound but Shimada has wrist control.
Shimada wants to hit a switch here but Cartman passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Shimada there!

Cartman lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Shimada wants to control but Cartman is having none of it.

Shimada is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Shimada tries to lock up and control but Cartman gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cartman is landing with some decent strikes but Shimada is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Shimada wants to control but Cartman is having none of it.
