PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gerry Butler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bastian Schweinsteiger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Schweinsteiger is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Son Kite - On Air. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Gerry Butler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Bastian Schweinsteiger!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Andrew Berry and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Schweinsteiger.
Butler fails with an attempt to clinch.

Butler closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Butler throws a strike but Schweinsteiger rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Butler tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Butler is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Schweinsteiger is controlling him.
Schweinsteiger stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Butler swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Butler is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Butler wriggles free and stands up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Schweinsteiger fails with the takedown

so Butler counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Gerry Butler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Schweinsteiger is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Butler defends well.

Schweinsteiger escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Butler gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Schweinsteiger utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Butler gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Butler is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Butler is pressed up against the cage. Schweinsteiger has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Butler down to the mat. Butler avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A slapping body kick lands there for Butler.
Butler looks for the body kick but Schweinsteiger saw that one coming.
Butler wants to clinch but Schweinsteiger slips to the side

and Schweinsteiger decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Butler's guard.

Butler is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Schweinsteiger's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Schweinsteiger is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Schweinsteiger is thwarting Butler's attempts to control the position.

Butler tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Schweinsteiger wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Butler here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Schweinsteiger postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Butler is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Schweinsteiger, into his guard.

Schweinsteiger is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Butler wants to get up but he can't break Schweinsteiger's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Butler drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Butler jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Schweinsteiger decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Schweinsteiger has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Schweinsteiger breaks from Butler's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Butler tries to hold on but Schweinsteiger pushes him away.

Bastian Schweinsteiger showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Schweinsteiger shoots and misses

Butler is looking for a sweep. Schweinsteiger is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Schweinsteiger is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Butler doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Schweinsteiger.

Schweinsteiger is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Butler can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Butler bucks up and throws Schweinsteiger to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
Schweinsteiger shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Butler counters with a low kick, right behind Schweinsteiger 's knee.

Butler closes the distance and clinches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Butler wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

I would just about give that final round to Bastian Schweinsteiger.
I think Schweinsteiger has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
